Hey guys - I bought an iphone 7 from a third-party seller on eBay. It can supposedly work on a CDMA network.

I already have an active SIM card with Verizon from my 5S that fits in the new device, but I can't for the life of me get it to work. The carrier (Verizon Wireless) appears at the top, but all of the signal bars are grayed out.

I've tried configuring the APN based on info I've found on several other sites, but so far no luck. Nothing but gray bars. Even tried calling their customer service, and no matter what they did they couldn't detect the phone.

Seller is offering me a return, but I really want to see if I can get this to work.

Model #: A1778

Any help would be appreciated!

In terms of unlocked iPhones, the only compatible iPhone for GSM and CDMA are (world) iPhones unlocked and bought from Apple or an authorized dealers like Best Buy. Unlocked iPhones bought from carriers are specific to their networks. Some carrier unlocked iPhones may work (with limited service) on different networks ie GSM to CDMA, and vice versa. Hope this helps.

Get your money back and use the money to possibly get the refurbished iPhone 7 or 7+ straight from Apple and their versions are considered global phones since they are fully compatible with GSM and CDMA which will enable them to work on all 4 of the major networks.
The model numbers are A 1660 for the 7 and A 1661 for the 7+

I believe it will work on LTE but not on CDMA so it’s not the best option for Verizon/Sprint customers. It’s a T-Mobile/att model that someone had unlocked.

I actually own an AT&T iPhone X on Verizon and can tell you it's not worth using it. It doesn't work in buildings, it doesn't work for getting emails while on a call. I have more drop or no signal than I have ever had in phones of today. I will be switching soon to AT&T anyways, so I am just dealing with it. But no one should "recommend" saying the GSM version will work fine on Verizon.

I definitely wasn’t recommending it.
