Does someone know if it will be possible?

On Devices with Touch ID it is possible to unlock to the homescreen without a second press on the home button.

I sure hope so. Apple changes small things like that often. Whatever they have now isn't necessarily permanent.

Right .. apples plan right now is catering to you. They will hopefully introduce an option to cater to me too and we can select what we want in preferences.

The swipe is need for notifications and for the scenario in where you look at your phone but didnt have an intention to use it.

Apple isn't catering to me. It just happens that I agree with their decision.

I thought raise to wake would translate to raise to unlock with face id. I bet they didn't do that because of battery issues?

Not sure why the swipe is a big deal. So instead of hitting the Touch ID button, you are now swiping up

The difference is with the iPhone X it's two actions to log in instead of one.

Current iPhone: Press or just hold thumb over button. The iPhone logs in.
iPhone X: Hold up to face, wait 1-2 seconds, then slide the screen up. The iPhone logs in.

1. you dont need to hold up to your face
2. you dont need to wait 1-2 seconds
3. Um, you need to look at your phone anyway to use it

This whole face id thing is a bad idea. Can you imagine the morons driving around now holding the phone up to their face trying to get it unlocked? Its an accident waiting to happen.

As opposed to the old way...using Touch ID to unlock your phone, then taking eyes off road to use your phone. Hmm.

I would think a simple raise to wake will prime the phone to standby for face ID detection. As for the lock screen notifications, imo this is why make the notification the same as the lock screen.

Facial recognition isn't a new technology in smartphones.

I'm only suggesting that touch ID is less of a distraction while driving. They should have offered both methods. The whole look at the phone and then swipe is much more cumbersome than touch id.

Taking your hand off the wheel is even more dangerous than looking...

That's why Apple introduced Do Not Disturb While Driving. Check it out.

Swipe right to unlock.

Swipe up to unlock.

Press the home button to unlock.

Stick your face in the camera to unlock.

Just what the heck is Apple playing at here? 4 methods to unlock a phone reminds me of when Microsoft proudly told the world that they had studied and integrated a dozen ways to shutdown Windows Vista.

10's of millions of iPhone sales indicate that Apple probably knows what it's doing.

I don't see this is as an issue. As you bring it to your face and look at your phone, it unlocks. Then just swipe up. Both 1 action.

Exactly. I think some people are having a problem understanding this.
