Just curious...you keep saying it came this way out of the box, yet you also restate that it was 12 days old...meaning, I guess, it took you 12 days to call Apple after noticing it was defective out of the box?

Why did you wait so long to call them? If this is as big an issue for you as it appears to be, you should have called them the first business day after Christmas.

Ofcourse, it's unacceptable.

If i get a dead pixel, it's going back regarding their pixel policy.
Who's pixel policy? Apple's?

If you've got less than 5 dead pixels and a rabbit's foot then you're at the mercy of whoever you talk to and might get lucky but there's no "policy" saying that a single dead pixel the size of a gnat's testicle entitles you to a complete replacement. I'd laugh your ass out of the genius bar.

Now, if you take advantage of a reseller's "no questions asked" 14 day return policy that's another story but it has nothing to do with Apple.

on friday night i noticed it, on monday i coulent go, and then yesterday i went.

yea i let it ran 20min.. but iam still waiting for the reseller to call me. and tell me what they can do to help, if they cant fix it, i will run Jscreen for 48h

Sending good thoughts your way bro and keeping my fingers crossed. I am the same way with new items. I want them to be in full working order...no blemishes.

A single dead pixel is generating all this fuss?

You people can't be serious.

Pal, are you serious? If I spent 2000 on a laptop, I want a perfect laptop out of the box. No defects whatsoever. And I have had 5 Apple laptops, and they have all been perfect. No screen defects. I would expect nothing less, regardless of Apple pixel policies. If I was within the return window, I would take it back.

Plus, it obviously depends on where the dead pixel is located. One in the center of the screen vs the periphery would be quite a pain to look at all day.

And let's not forget residual values when the time comes to upgrade...

Everything I buy new goes via credit card and/or online order. Here in the UK you have added consumer protection provided for by the c/c company. Any disputes such as this, you call the c/c company, return the item, and they refund you the price. Then THEY will take it out with the vendor (or just write it off).

Did you open it up to check out the thermal paste? You would no doubt have a coronary if you saw how messy some of these paste jobs are.

Of course I'm being sarcastic. I won't criticize another person's fetish.

Amen. Apple's thermal paste application is an absolute joke and borderline dangerous to the concerned components. But hey, out of sight out of mind.

Here is a thread regarding my reapplication of thermal paste on my 13" MBP. It even includes pictures of the horrendous stock thermal paste application.

Re: the original topic; I had dust under my MBP glass overlay (also have a thread about it, located here). They replaced the entire display assembly. After about 5 days of owning the MBP with the replacement screen, I noticed a dead pixel. I would rather have a dead pixel than tons of dust under the glass. OP: You should consider yourself lucky that you do not have any dust under the glass overlay that covers the display.

I'm an Apple tech, no need to school me on the horror's of Apple's stock thermal paste application :D

Sorry to hear about it. I actually had the same issue when I got my first MacBook in 2008. I got home and about 30 days later, I notice a dead pixel. I take it to the Apple store and they run some tests to confirm it was a dead pixel. I then give them the "I'm only 18 and I'll be using this laptop in college next year for graphic design..i spent 1200 on a computer and it has a dead pixel.." They then brought out their manager. I told the sob story again and he was nice enough to let me get a brand new MacBook. Keep in mind it was 30 days later and I didn't purchase Apple care on it. Ever since then, thats the ONLY Apple store I make my purchases at. Since then, I've bought my current MacBook Pro there along with getting my Macs serviced there. When it comes down to it, it just depends on who you're talking to at the store. If they're having a bad day, they may give you a hard time. In your case, there is only one story in your area which sucks BUT I just wanted to share that many Apple stores are great. I hope your issue gets worked out.
