Pay for a device. Then pay to jailbreak. No thanks.

Funny guy. Pay for a device, then pay for apps. No thanks....

You realize a Jailbreak is just one heck of a good app don't you? So if it is a fraction of the cost of all other apps, that makes it likely to be one heck of a hot seller too. Plus if you buy it through a store front like Cydia, they could probably implement a feature that prevents pirating.

It is always amusing the number of people that seem keen to donate or pay but the reality is that very few ever hit the donate button. Cronic dev and ih8sn0w both had donate buttons and even though sn0wbreeze has been downloaded 400,000 times the donate button was removed because he only got like $15.

You can be sure that Cronic dev is not making a living on their donate button either.

yup and ask around the forum here how many used Sn0wbreeze not many also where do you get your $15 figure! Cronic dev at least does decent stuff. Many high up have mentioned the dislike to for Donation button namely Musclenerd. I think it would be a nice option to pick a good charity they like as well such as st Judes.

pay for a device. Then pay for a data plan

pay for a device. Then pay for a voice plan

pay for a device. Then pay for countless apps
Seriously. I've lost count of the crappy apps I've bought for a buck, used once and never again. I'd gladly throw some cash as a 'professional' jailbreak.

Problem we have now, the way things are, is it takes 8 months to reasonably jailbreak an iOS release. Then, we're on to the next go-round. It's been 6 months of iOS4 and we barely have a flaky tethered jailbreak (and Winterboard hasn't been updated at all to work with the 4.2.1 changes) because with each point iOS update, it sends the whole dev team back to the drawing board. The way it's looking, it will be another month or more for an untethered jailbreak. Couple months after that: iOS5.

redsn0w beta 4 is live now

redsn0w beta 4 untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 is live and it has fixed the crash too. But still we should wait for the original version instead of trying beta thats what the dev team said. But anyone who is curious to try his/her luck can make a move.

So when the final version of the JB comes out will people who do not have SHSH blobs and are on 4.2.1 be able to jailbreak?

Says the person with the referral to AT&T in their sig. *eyeroll* I'm sure for anyone that's signed up on your behalf, the discount you've received from AT&T you've forwarded to St. Jude's? ;)

Why offer to pay when they currently offer it for free? Serious question. The current model is fine; Donate if you want, if not shut up and wait.

People just need to have PATIENCE, not stupidly update their phones and backup their SHSHs. It's really not that hard.

Quite true...but for logic and clarity you should insert a comma between "their phones" and "and backup". It's amazing how some people read posts in a totally literal way;)

I really don't know why they're putting so much effort into this jailbreak that is based on a beta SHSH blob that most people do not have, unless that's all they could get working.

I used beta3 to JB my iPhone and so far so good. I did have issues when it came to JB'ing it but finally got those resolved. After a successful JB everything has been working as it should.

How is Bluetooth working out for you?

No one forced you to update to 4.2.1. Jailbreaking 4.1 and everything below is amazingly easy and problem-free. I really don't understand your statement about "6 months of iOS4 and we barely have a flaky tethered jailbreak." Really? I'm pretty sure comex, chronicdev, geohot, etc, have already made great untethered jailbreaks that work for millions of people.

Yup, I have had a perfectly stable jailbreak on my iPhone4 for many months now, first on 4.0.1, then on 4.1.
Even tethered 4.2.1 on my iPad is perfectly stable and acceptable.

My JB iOS 4 iPhone 3GS broke so I needed a new phone, I picked up a new 16GB iPhone 4 yesterday that is running 4.2.1. Since it's never been jailbroken before, is the tethered JB my only option right now?

And, is there any hope for an untethered JB for "virgin" iOS devices with no SHSH blobs?

I'm happy to wait for something that'll work on this phone, but I'm really missing MyWi 4.0. :(

Thanks..

J.

There is definitely hope. But when, and if, that hope will become more than merely hope we do not know. Comex is aware of a bug that he might be able to exploit to get the untethered JB out to everyone. However, so far he has been unsuccessful in getting it to work. Will he have better luck in the future? We "hope" so. When that might happen, no one knows, not even Comex.

i'm jailbreaking my 4.2.1 iphone 4 right now with dev team's new tethered jailbreak.

i did it all right, but (see attached), this screen has been like this for 20+ minutes and my phone has the "plug usb into itunes" screen.

what do i do!! please someone help. should i just wait?
