That's like a year of usage.
for YOU... that's what you fail to understand.

Sorry, I use at least 500 min a month, I know people who use more... so what are they supposed to do.

You think I'm going to cut my monthly usage by a factor of *12* and spread my monthly allotment of minutes into a YEARLY allotment just because now I'm on prepay? I'm going to have to use my phone just as much whether I prepay or not, I'm not going to go from 500 min a month to 40 min a month.

Seriously.. dumbest post ever.. go home!

Why does the iPad have to have 4G LTE? Isn't there wifi pretty much anywhere you'd use it? And couldn't you just use your phone as a mobile hotspot if not? No way would I pay 100 extra (or whatever it is) for cellular connectivity. I get 4G being a selling feature for phones, but not for tablets.

I don't care about LTE, and yes, even 3G isn't a deal-breaker by itself.

Sadly, the only way to get built-in GPS is the 3G, and I suppose the LTE iPads...

And, yes, quite a bit of what I would actually use an iPad for, would require GPS.

LOL

have less inane conversations.

or spend less money, so you can do more stuff with your bros. you do know that 100 USD/month buys 20 beers or so, right; or a stripper (not a great one); or some more interesting things than SMSs.

talk less; do more.

Why should they upgrade the outdated iPad 2?
Apple will, if, sell it as the same model as it's being sold today.
They also never changed any iPhone which was continued being sold after a new iPhone came out except cutting storage.

Well, for one, the A5X may be cheeper to produce, perhaps allowing Apple to maintain more profit on the iPad 2 even at a lower price.

The A5X could also be more efficient, allowing a more affordable battery to be used in a revised iPad 2. Again, perhaps allowing Apple to maintain more profit on the iPad 2 even at a lower price.

yeah the thing is, i talk to my friends/family to make those plans.

And I have no problem paying $100 a month for a phone, I'm not the one complaining about it... YOU ARE!

If money is tight for you, I'm sorry, but don't tell everyone else how to spend their money. I'm doing just fine paying for my cell phone and still have enough money to buy beers and strippers, so please stop concerning yourself with my personal finances. I'm doing alright...

I never concern myself with finances, especially not yours, it's just a dumb decision, that's all. unless, you're antisocial, which may be true.

right. it all makes sense now. not talking on the phone or sending text messages is the hallmark of a social butterfly.

the amateur psychologist in me is having a field day with you. wow. just... wow.

it's the most likely reason to understand such an irrational decision

or just more reasons for a bored troll to continue trolling.

you are just making a fool of yourself at this point.

You know what, you're right....

I'm going to cancel my ATT contract right now and buy a German prepaid iPhone plan. I'm sure I will save a bunch of money because guess what.... i won't even have service to use my phone!! AWESOME!

that's another problem with the providers you have.

and you would have service, just so you know (it works globally, but you probably wouldn't know about that.)
no obviously i wouldn't know about that because

a. I don't live in Germany
b. I don't have German cell service
c. I don't sit there and study German cell service
d. I couldn't care less about German cell service
e. I have perfectly fine service... I am not the one that's concerned about it.. for some reason YOU ARE?

And what, there is no roaming charge for that? Because I highly doubt they have their own towers over here!

Seriously? The ASUS Transformer Primer?

Show of hands: Has anyone ever seen one of these in real life? Not on a store shelf. In the hands of an actual person on the street.

Regardless, you've managed to name one tablet -- that no one actually uses -- that was released nearly two years after the iPad. That's not competition. That's a kid on a street corner selling lemonade compared to the Coca Cola brand. It's the Zune trying to catch the iPod -- releasing a product that matches last year's specs as Apple announces something much better.

Meanwhile, where is HP? Dell? Toshiba? Microsoft? Google? LG? Motorola?

If Apple is really screwing us with the price of the iPad, why aren't we seeing a flood of tablets from these guys with better specs and better prices? Because they can't. The iPad is an amazing combination of tight engineering, incredible supply-chain management, and a robust ecosystem of content and accessories. No other company has demonstrated an ability to match that.

Sorry bud, but this was your statement: "No other manufacturer has even come close to matching the iPad's specs and price. It's just a lot of tech in a very small package."

Doesn't say anything about legitimate competition, or supply chain management, or sales numbers. It's just a misinformed post by someone who apparently couldn't believe that the there are actually other products out there that can actually beat the iPad2 spec wise and price wise.

PS: FWIW, my brother has a Transformer Prime, which is why I mention it from time to time. Is it perfect? Nope. Am I getting one? Nope. But it does beat the iPad2 in pretty much every spec category and it's $50 cheaper at the comparable storage size level.

don't be so pedantic

Clearly, you have never used one in more than a cursory manner if you think it's "just a big iPod". That's what people were saying about the iPad when it was announced, before they had a chance to get their hands on one.

Even the first generation iPad has for the most part replaced my laptop.

Edit: I find this whole story bogus. No way will Apple continue to sell the iPad 2 at the current price, unless it is also upgraded.

Clearly you don't do much on your computer if the ipad replaced it. Some people do more than just browse the web.

Hey man, congrats on inventing your time machine! That's a pretty sweet technological accomplishment. How are things back in February 2010?

I get it, the ipad works great for you, but some people do more than watching youtube videos. In my case an ipad does not replace my macbook pro.

Yeah yeah, I know it sounds that way. But seriously I think there are people around here who refuse to believe that any other manufacturer could possibly conjure up the "magic" that Apple uses to manufacture their tablets so thin, fast and (arguably) cheap. I think it's worth pointing out that the landscape is a little different than it was a year ago. There is legitimate competition both at the low end (Fire) and high end (Transformer Prime) just waiting for Apple to mess up. Clearly the iPad still dominates, but it may not be permanent.

Anyway, for all these reasons I really hope that this pricing rumor is false. But we'll see.

that's what i think as well.

LOL at performance/€ of the iPad

These types of posts were amusing, if short-sighted when the iPad was first announced. Now they're just displaying an embarrassing lack of understanding of the needs of 95% of computer users.

Seriously guys: It's not the world, it's you. You don't get it.

Many people, including me, think of the iPad as a big iPod Touch.
If you're a light user that doesn't mean others can rely on a toy spec-wise.

Not at all. more than 50% of an 11" MBA is not worth the money (or the MBA is good value for money depending on perspective).

i own:

a 20" iMac at the office (office PC)
a Al unibody Macbook (notebook)
a blackbook (old notebook)
an 11" MBA (travel notebook)
a 2G itouch (lab timer)
a 27" iMac at home (big screen is useful)
an ATV 2 (PLEX from balckbook)

(plus a basket of iPods - 2g / 5.5g video / 1g shuffle / 2g shuffle)

why do I need an iPad?

and I have a nook to read on (eInk is easier on the eyes)

what am I missing that makes an iPad or iPhone good value for money?!?!?!?!
