my Asus Zenwatch has an AMOLED screen and is able to have "always on" time. I believe it shifts the "always on" watch faces by a few pixels every now and then to avoid burn in. It's also a simplified watch face when the watch is idle and then shows the full face when you move your wrist to look at it. I do wish my Apple Watch had always on, at least just a simple digital face with hours/minutes.

It's huge. Not in a good way.

Already has 1.5 days. No good, if you want a useful amount to not charge it every night you will need 2-3 days at least. And that would require quite a battery size increase which Could work if it was a huge 46-50mm; you have seen the watches before haven't you?! Unless you are Massive with hulk arms it would look ridiculous!

Couldn't Apple invent a better battery technology? This would revolutionize the smart watch industry, not make Apple another lost in the weeds.

I just would like to know, what kind of technology was discovered in the past 12months that can make an already tiny product 40% thinner?

I still don't understand the FaceTime camera. I mean who wants to hold you wrist up for a several minute long convo and look at someone. I don't even like using the phone feature for long conversation becuase it's an uncomfortable position.

It can't be a Dick Tracy watch without it.

. . . .I'm starting to think Ive and Cook are trying to put Apple behind everyone else on purpose for some stupid reason.

Thinness comes from Ive, now that Jobs is gone there is no one to reign him in. Not saying he is a bad designer, just that form seems to be winning over function a lot lately and that cannot be by accident.

I'm a Watch owner. The Watch doesn't need to be any thinner. It needs to be faster with more HealthKit tie-ins other than movement and heartbeat.

It needs to be a LOT of things, but the LAST thing it needs to be is thinner.

I've seen a split mindset on this. I don't own one, but they do look pretty thick to me, and reading through these comments, it looks like about half of the people here feel it is a little too thick.

The iPhone on the other hand... I don't think I've heard of a single person who thinks the iPhone is too thick, and yet they keep trying to make those thinner. It doesn't surprise me at all that they would make the Watch thinner.

But the thickness isn't what has kept me from buying one. I want an Apple Watch that can work independently from my iPhone.

Here we go again - can't make it more useful, so let's make it thinner instead.

In any case, it looks like the smartwatch fad has burnt out already, how about they drop the watch altogether?

I agree about the battery, in that aspect, it would be nice to have better battery life. Good to know about water resistance. I know Tim Cook says he showers in his and many others have had luck with the watch in water. I guess at the end of the day, if it gets water damage, they can't see whether it just got wet in the shower or was at the bottom of a 12 foot pool... Maybe I'll get a little more brave with mine ;)

A new Apple Watch this year would be too soon IMHO. I think a 2 year cadence is reasonable as Apple fatigue is starting to set in for me. The price point for the watches and bands need to be revisited as well. $149 for a band is obnoxious.

A lot of people (myself included) have been holding off on buying an Apple Watch until the included technology seems worth the price. Just because they release a new model doesn't mean everyone with a first gen Watch needs to upgrade.

I like my Apple Watch but I will probably wait until the 3rd generation before upgrading if all the 2nd generation has to offer is a thinner design, FaceTime camera and better Wi-Fi capability. What would get me to upgrade sooner would be more health sensors.

My top wish list for the next watch (in order of desire) is:
1. More watch faces with colors and styles, especially ones with complications.
2. Faster app launches
3. More functions that don't require the phone (apps, siri, etc)
4. Ability to play any audio that's on my phone or in the cloud (especially for podcasts)

How about they don't make it any thinner, but use that 'extra' space to put in better battery!

Now that would be great!
Agreed. I would rather that they keep it as-is and use a larger battery to support faster performance. I don't mind charging it every night (that's a habit now anyway), but it is slow. Just asking Siri to start a 3 minute egg timer seems like half of the time has already expired before the timer gets started. If the watch was more responsive it would be a more pleasant user experience.

Currently, my apple watch runs pretty well compared to when i first brought it on launch day. The apps load quicker, siri has improved, and the battery seems to last longer, or though this is confounded by the fact that the novelty has warn thin, and it's still more of a gimmick/accessory for my iPhone, rather than an independent product like my ipad.

I could care less about thinness, like others, a higher capacity battery, improved display, fast cpu, improved array of sensors would be more welcomed than thinness, sorry Ives, your fat shaming compulsion has gone too far!

I also hope they do not change the band connectors on the new watch, as many, like myself, may have amassed several bands, and would like the option to be able to use these in the future.

I have a great idea. Before they do anything to the watch, please fix the stupid recent calls list bug in WatchOS. It drives me nuts. If I clear my iPhone recent calls list while not wearing the watch, they get stuck on the watch. Why on earth can't you swipe the recent call on the watch to the left and click delete like you can with messages and emails? Only way to remove them at this point is to unpair the watch from the iPhone and start over with everything (Apple Pay, etc). Pain in the neck !!!

The main thing id like in a new Apple Watch is accurate heart rate tracking during workout - its currently garbage. A real heart rate monitor says i'm doing 155bpm (which I bloody well feel) and the Apple Watch things i'm doing 55bpm...which lower than most peoples resting heart rate ffs!
I haven't had any problems like that. Whenever I compare the measured heart rate on the Apple Watch to other devices it is pretty close.

I'm waiting for the pro model that supports the Apple Pencil...

Seriously Apple, I was just kidding. For the love of God, don't do it.

40% thinner? Goodbye band compatibility and better battery
So you took "thinner" to mean it's going to be so thin that the tray where the bands fit will be changed? You know that thing is thin as hell right? Like 3 mm. The watch isn't going to go from 12 mm to 2mm. Jesus man....

I don't know one person who wants a thinner Apple Watch. We all want better battery life and faster speeds. Apple needs to go to rehab for their thin addiction.

You do know this is only a rumor and I wouldn't even call it a credible one. Supply chain rumors from sell-side analysts rarely are. When they have nothing they just trot out the "it's going to be thinner" 'meme.

Right, because the digital crown size can't be adjusted? This is absolutely not a consideration as to how thin the watch can get.

Apple did't spend 2-3 years developing the form factor, ergonomics, build up the supply of accessories, and manufacturing tooling to arbitrarily throw that all away for a different design. If anything, Apple will simply use any reclaimed space to improve battery life, add additional sensors, camera, etc. The improved battery life would then make it possible to power smart watch bands through the diagnostic port.

http://www.bgr.in/news/apple-working-on-modular-smart-bands-for-apple-watch-new-patent-reveals/

In February 2015, Apple filed the patent application called ‘Modular functional band links for wearable devices.’ Spotted by AppleInsider, the patent reveals modular smart bands for the Apple Watches. The schematics reveal new strap designs that can connect to the Apple Watch with the diagnostics port.

GPS and WiFi draw too much power for such a battery life constrained device, trying to do so many other things. That is why the watch uses BTLE and relies on the phone for higher power draw computing resources (Speech to Text, GPS, WiFi, LTE, photo/audio/video processing, etc.)

The Rolex is not thinner than an Apple Watch..... I have both.

When it was unveiled, it was their most focused on product...
I'm going to say that's probably true, not sure what it has to do with WWDC.

Gary
It has to do with WWDC because it's probably going to be a big part of their presentation again, as well as the new iPhone. It actually overshadowed their iPhone presentation a bit when it was first unveiled. It's not just going to be a tiny announcement or something I'm sure they will discuss it quite a bit.
