These images of the new Apple store certainly make it look underwhelming. The current store on North Michigan Ave. has a presence that is impossible to miss. This new South [North] Michigan Ave location is going to be hidden and I can only imagine the throngs of people overwhelming the stairs to get down to the entrance, or the elevator they'll have to include to get people down to the riverwalk entrance.

I'm sure Apple got a great deal from Zeller on this property, and it will do exactly what Zeller wanted / needed - to drive up property and leasing values in the area and bring in more tenants to the Wrigley building (which they own).

Personally, I think Apple would have been better off keeping their existing location and re-building it into their new architectural design language.

I think that the roof is a cool design for a store in a city like Chicago. That would not work in smaller cities...

Isn't here a lot of crime in Chicago? I might be confused with Detroit and the Robocop movie though.

In certain neighborhoods, but the crime rate is statistically low downtown compared to many other cities. The area where this store is located is near a famous high-end shopping area and along a riverwalk where families dine outside, etc.

Just walked by here. There is literally another just up the street. Wonder if it’s going to replace that.
It is.

No more than any other city. In fact, a lot less. Maybe you're watching too much Chicago PD?

[doublepost=1498228736][/doublepost]It should also be noted that this Apple logo was removed an hour after it was installed... as reported by user(s) on reddit.

I'm more interested in the roof material. Carbon Fiber. A solar panel roof would have cost a lot less. The tech would fit better with the green image they are trying to cultivate. Plus in my opinion looked a whole lot better.

True a solar panel roof would only have limited benefit in Chicago with all those skyscrapers around. Still it would have some small benefit over its lifespan. Rather than some super expensive carbon fiber roof. Which simply costs a lot of money.

If they simply wanted a smooth roof. I'm sure they could have achieved the same with aluminum for less. They could have even sourced the aluminum from recycled Macbooks.

Apple is building a new flagship retail location in Chicago, which features glass walls and a thin, carbon fiber roof. Photos of the store's roof were shared today by Chicago news site DNAinfo, and as it turns out, Apple has added a white Apple logo that wasn't in the original plans, making the top of the structure look a lot like an Apple notebook.

The roof is made from a material that resembles the silver aluminum of the MacBook and MacBook Pro, with rounded edges and the same rectangular shape. When complete, it will sit atop all-glass walls, making for a unique floating MacBook-style design that's not quite like any other Apple Store.

The new store, which is located near the historic Michigan Avenue Bridge alongside the Chicago River, has been designed by longtime Apple partner Foster+Partners in homage of architect Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie Style homes in Chicago.

Based on plans from 2015, the building spans 20,000 square feet and replaces a vacant food court. It features two floors, with a flight of stairs that go from street level to a walkway next to the north bank of the river.

There is no word yet on when the new store will be opening, but construction is nearing completion.

Here's your proof that the MBP light up logo will return on 2018 and even Reddit confirmed it too.

No. The 6 Plus is discontinued. Apple would use the iPhone 7 Plus, which essentially shares the same physical design as the 6 Plus. Which would negate your bending theory, due to the 7000 Series aluminum rectified any bendind Over the 6000 Series aluminum used on the 6 Plus.

The store would be pointless then if it's modeled after the iPhone 7 since there would be no door with removal of 3.5mm. And, before you say 'dongle' it's obvious they forgot it looking at the picture.

So the roof will be heavier than expected, while the store will be significantly more expensive, have not enough power and be lacking useful connections.

Well at least we know this store won't be closed for renovations in the future.....since it's not upgradable now!

Looks tacky.. next up, giant stores that look like iphones, and giant heads of steve jobs.

Tim always brings the class :S

Can someone explain what I see in the picture down below, I know it's a statue, but there seems to be a guy next to it, the problem is, he's way to big compared to the people surrounding the statue.
And what is the yellow/orange spot on it.
Cheers.

Edit: I think I've got a clue, it's not really a statue, Marilyn Monroe sculpture was there on that spot, so I guess this is a sculpture of some kind/people.
