Apple is working on a next-generation version of the Vision Pro with an updated chip, and it could include a new Dual Knit Band that provides a more comfortable fit.

Updated Apple backend code found by MacRumors includes a reference to a "Dual Knit Band," which is not a band that exists at the current time. The Apple Vision Pro comes with a Solo Knit Band and a Dual Loop Band, but no Dual Knit Band.

Based on the name, the new band could be a cross between Apple's two existing bands, featuring the same comfortable material as the Solo Knit Band but with a more supportive two-band fit. A text description of the Dual Knit Band suggests that there will be an upper band that spans the top of the head and another band that fits behind the head.

Some people have made custom adjustments to the Vision Pro to get it to accommodate two Solo Knit Bands for extra support at the top of the head, and those that have gone that route suggest it is much more comfortable than Apple's current Dual Loop Band.

Back in July, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said that the refreshed Vision Pro could include a new strap that would make it easier to wear the headset for long periods of time, and it looks like the rumor is accurate.

The Vision Pro weighs between 21.2 and 22.9 ounces, putting considerable strain on the head when it's worn for long periods of time. Some users find the weight of the device and the poor distribution of the Solo Knit Band to cause discomfort. The Dual Loop Band removes some of the weight from the face, but because it doesn't have the same knit design as the Solo Knit Band, it is less comfortable.

Apple is expected to refresh the $3,499 Vision Pro before the end of 2025. It will get a faster M5 chip, but Apple doesn't plan to make any other updates to the device.

Apple Vision Pro and the guide link is on the second mention of the Vision Pro, which is improper. Also, it could get more sales with the more comfortability and maybe better battery life with the more-efficient M5.

What about this article from two days ago?

Would they release a 2.0 with an M5 chip and a re-designed headband if future versions are on hold?

Maybe that code was from before they shelved the VP and they just forgot to remove it? Wouldn't be surprised if that happens. A lot.

I don’t understand doing just a chip upgrade. Do they think that is going to be enough to get existing users to upgrade? I doubt they will get many more new customers without a significant change. Seems like a wasted opportunity to get rid of that eyesore (EyeSight) and switch materials to make it lighter and cheaper.

Because it signals commitment to AR/VR. The Vision Pro format (heavy device, hip battery, loner experience) may be a dead end, but it doesn't mean AR/VR is completely useless.

Glasses obviously make more sense but leaving the VP to rot with M2 like a brown banana is bad PR.

Finewoven, gets a second life. That piled up stock is gonna be re-used, and another gate emerges.

Apple will tell you not to sweat using it or the headband made by Finewoven could disintegrate.

Glasses wont give you the immersive content that promote so much and good viewing 4h hdr movies, that’s the whole selling point of the Vision Pro; glasses is a complete different product

For people who do things alone, sure. I like to watch movies with family and friends, personally.

Maybe people care more about social connections than watching immersive movies alone?

Why do you think 3D TVs failed? Most people don't need to have that extreme level of entertainment.

They are doing the chip upgrade because they still have too many excess parts they produced, and to rekindle interest for business applications.

But given that the real upgrade they had been targeting for 2027 has now been shelved, the Vision Pro is more or less a living corpse for the foreseeable future.

Who's going to buy this? People who didn't buy one, are definitely not going to buy one now, and almost no one is going to upgrade from the first one. I wouldn't be surprised if the VP product is unofficially discontinued after this update. It didn't sell well, and its components are piling up in warehouses. This version feels like lets put a new chip in the existing components to sell a few more headsets and move on.

I don't understand why Apple started taking glasses seriously now, after the Meta announcement. Why not work on it immediately. Glasses fit more into Apples product line and image than a VR headset. Who at Apple thought VR was a better choice? Even Jony Ive advised Tim to focus on developing glasses and that VR wasn't the right thing to do. It feels like Apple doesn't have a coherent long term vision for any product. Just a rushed attempt to play catch up because their focus is on margins most of the time.

The M5 version will only exist because they still have components. They want to boost sales and reduce inventory by giving the headset a its new feel. They'll put a new chip and produce a new strap, which will cost them nothing to produce and can probably be attach to the current model. After that, the focus will be on glasses. Apple probably wanted to milk the VP until 2028 and then offer glasses, but the product flopped, and the competition caught up with the glass product.

Who is this product even for?
It is good for designing vehicles, devices etc. Medical fields can really make use of it. Connect with 3D,4D MRI imaging. Possibilities are endless. As a consumer, I don’t see any use for it unless I am a single. If the battery can’t last for 6-8 hours, it is not good enough for professionals either
