Maybe people care more about social connections than watching immersive movies alone?

Why do you think 3D TVs failed? Most people don't need to have that extreme level of entertainment.
Until you watch a few movies with AVP you wont understand.

I would love to buy this new version, even if it's the same design. I dont have the current one, but if this new one gets an M5, R2, overall improved performance, and this alleged dual knit band that is comfortable and takes a lot of the weight off, then ill get one. Using this on flights with this new band, doing homework in the Bahamas; oh man I cant wait.

Hopefully it’s true, and hopefully the band would be backwards compatible with AVP1. I would love to get one for my AVP1.

Been using mine with 2 solo knit bands with a 3rd party attachment. Definitely helps with comfort :)

New chip, better strap, no pointless eye screen in the front, $500 cheaper. Investment in compelling apps.

That’s what I would do.

Watched the latest Mission Impossible on it last night - I’m always mind blown by how spectacular this technology is.

I used the SoloTop mod to add a second solo knit band, which was more comfortable than a single solo knit band, but switched to Belkin’s additional headstrap when that was released. The solo knit band + Belkin hand band with the wide light seal is by far the most comfortable setup. Can easily watch a 2hr+ without any pressure on the head/face.

I have been using the Belkin head strap from the Apple Store that goes over the top of the head and really enjoy it. Not sure how Apple can improve on it.

Before the Belkin head strap I did still use the AVP for hours on end, but would adjust periodically to keep in the 'sweet spot' for my comfort. With the Belkin head strap no adjustment required.

Exactly. It was positioned as the next iPhone/Watch. Look at the keynote, where the woman was constantly wearing it around the house. If it was a medical device for the medical field, it wouldn't have a gimmicky screen with creepy eyes and would be designed more specifically for particular use cases and tailor made for each field. E.g. if surgeons use VR in the future it will definitely not be VP a mass market product.
Exactly. As someone who sells medical devices, this target market is incredibly niche. It’s also just being used as HUD. There’s no real value to it unless they partner with a company like intuitive (DaVinci) or Stryker which will never happen.

It’s not class 2 or 3 but there are many cases where Medical staff are using it to assist during surgery and such. For example:
Yeah I saw that. It’s being used as a HUD. It’s a stretch to call that a critical part of a medical procedure. It’s also very very very niche. I’m also curious how they’re reprocessing and sterilizing the VP post surgery. Joint commission does not f around when it comes to things going in and out of the OR. If this is the future of the VP it’s going to sell in the dozens.

Honest question. Since you stated you're considering the purchase. What problem, or issue does the AVP solve for you to be considering?

My neighbor's son owns a VR headset (the facebook one maybe?) and he uses that every day, but I think he's mostly just playing games

Entertainment. I own one. It doesn’t solve an issue for sure. It’s an additional device. I think many tried to make it fit. Replace a mac. Can’t do that. Replace an iPad. It can? Maybe. After all it’s basically iPad vr but it can’t be taken everywhere easily. Can’t replace form factor. And it doesn’t run all iPad apps. The App Store in Vision Pro is a mess and sadly still is.

For me my use is

1. Movies
2. Immersive videos
3. Vr apps but few for sure.
4. Pics and videos you’ve made or photo library. Pretty cool converting old photos into spatial ones.
5. Monitor for Mac or other devices.

And done so in visual quality you won’t see from meta yet. Or Google or Samsung.

Was it worth it? I’ve spent more on other things. Worth is subjective. It’s a fun device for me.

Is it lacking ? You bet. Apple is screwing the pooch on it. It’s like they gave up besides token os updates that’s are mediocre or dropping an occasional video on their tv app. This isn’t like their other products and they basically suck garnering enthusiasm or engagement with users.

But that’s Apple. They sit back and let others do that. Feedback be damned.

It’s missing a good AI. The ui gets tiring. The new scrolling with eyes feature I turned off. Your eyes are doing enough in this. I haven’t mentioned games because they lack. It’s not made for them. Not interested in using the ui for it. You need controllers. Immersive sports? No one is going to do this. It costs too much. For apple. For content providers. The users aren’t there to pay.

It’s a wow product that will wow with a demo but quickly customers will think ok but now what. No one is wearing these 8 hours a day to work in. Or out in public. Or in front of family to spend time with em.

Cheaper and lighter just means a worst quality experience. Even 2k isn’t cheap enough. Not like Apple is making a killing as it is on these. This isn’t happening.

Glasses is something else entirely. Also Vision Pro is kinda a lone experience. You’re not passing this device around to friends and family. Apple doesn’t make that easy to do. Lack of big name support as well. YouTube. Etc.

IMO lack of an llm Siri is apples biggest concern and priority.

Really great post.

This line really sums it up so well

"It’s a wow product that will wow with a demo but quickly customers will think ok but now what."

I've said for a long time that Apple needs to have a slave mode for the Vision Pro. The idea is if I could record a high-quality surgical training video using my Vision Pro to record or SPATIAL video it would be phenomenal for teaching

Ideally there would be a slave mode whereby I simply put the headset on somebody else and drive the experience from my phone. That way they don't need to learn the complicated way to interact with the device. Just watch and learn !
