Both of those shows have been getting favorably critical ratings.

I'm sure the shows are decent. I'm just getting the feeling that it's ABC's goal to make a tv show about every minority/social group, and they're been as obvious as possible about it. Nothing wrong about diversity, but I think each TV show should be diverse as opposed to singling out one group per TV show. I think Modern Family does a good job at that.

Actually, Apple is paying for it. In this article, it says Apple provided ABC with iPhones, iPads, Macbooks, and a Mac Pro for editing and post production.

Apple is a very clever company that knows how to create a competitive advantage silently behind the scenes.

I'll give an example from an older movie. In "You've Got Mail" (1998) Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan, every single scene (and their were many) involving Meg Ryan using her MacBook, they made sure the Glowing White Apple Logo was front and center, easily viewed over and over. Then when Tom Hanks was at his laptop the "ThinkPad" Logo was painted black so it couldn't be seen. Already a black laptop it appeared very generic. Yet using one at work back then, I could spot one easily.

Nothing wrong with deal making and product placement, but let's be honest about it. I do however understand why many just love the thought that Apples so superior that filmmakers feel compelled to use them. That though reveals how little people know about filmmaking and TV.

Reality is its their job day and and day out. Using unfamiliar equipment no matter what it is, or how easy it is to use still involves change. It also slows them down. Look at the archives here with thousands upon thousands of complaints objections and outright claims of leaving Apple if they made any iPhone larger than it was. A tiny phone that almost no one wanted changed.

Then the typical Apple enthusiast hypocrisy kicked in and took over once Apple made iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Suddenly they flip flopped like politicians do and raved about Apples brilliance. Look at the record setting sales... Bought by the very people that swore Apple wouldn't change and if they did these users would go elsewhere. The archives are jam packed with the threads to prove it.

Yet at the end of the day if this TV show shot with iOS gear makes people happy, Apple wins and that's all that matters to them. They deserve to get that result for their money.

Love Modern Family. Can't wait to see it tomorrow.

I want a dog like Stella

Side note, ABC and Modern Family are fantastic with product placement. They already use iPhones and MacBooks in the show and Toyota is HUGE sponsor of the show too.

I think Modern Family had lost considerable steam in the past in the past 2-3 years, with TV Burrell being one of the few consistently good parts of each episode.

Terrible titles aside, the two diversity shows serve and undeserved market on network television, and credit to them, the writing is good.

That said, I miss Happy Endings and Don't Trust the B.

Oh yeah? How so? Give me a great example....if you can.

The episode early in the show's run when Phil wanted an iPad for his birthday and spent the entire episode listing the great things he could do with it.

That was a shameless promotion.

Fair enough.

It's really the titles that turned me off. I'll gives the shows a chance, but I wish the titles weren't so tasteless.

Nah, nice try though. Unlike MS who needs the throw the Surface in everybody's face to get people to buy them Apple's products are generally placed out of the movie studio's choice. You should already know that. Apple's products don't need shameless promotion tactics unlike Microsoft's non-selling stuff.

Oww look, here you are defending Apple and slagging off MS that was not even part of my comment, very predictable. Why on earth did you bring MS into this?? The fact of the matter is, Levitan is a huge apple fan, and apple provided devices for the episode, so in my book yeah, this is a shameless promotion! He could have done this episode using a variaty of tech, instead its all Apple products , provided by the company itself .

LMAO! I like how you didn't bother reading it properly. It's okay though, I understand that you were trying to win your losing argument. ;)

It said "THE SHOW APPROACHED APPLE" about the episode and they wanted to use Apple products. That's hardly the same as Microsoft shoving the Surface in our faces on TV. Nearly every sports network or show has a Surface tablet on their table with the word SURFACE on the back of the tablet. Hmm, funny though, I've never seen a Surface tablet with the word SURFACE written SO BIG on the back of the kickstand. Yeah, that's because MS is shoving that thing in people's faces.
Let's just say it's hardly believable that the sports networks approached Microsoft and begged MS to allow them to promote their Surface tablets. :)

You have a serious problem with the surface, and Microsoft by the looks of it, your issue to deal with! In relation to product placement, your comment is just rubbish, Apple does exactly the same thing, I guess you have not been to a cinema years...... Apple products are being shoved in our face! All companies do it, apple, microsoft, Samsung, stop pretending that apple is different!

Could the producer have done this episode using a number of devices from different companies, or is HE SHOVING apple in our face? With APPLE happy to assist a fanboy, yes the producer is a huge apple fanboy. Its very believable Levitan approached apple and begged them to promote thier ecosystem ;)

Is is a way for Apple to say "hey, lets see what we can do."

No one likes a show off.. How many TV shows are done this way ?

From The Verge:

"DOES ANYBODY REALLY USE THE REMINDERS APP?"

I do, I know a lot of other people do.

Yup. A lot.

I just set it up to record. Should be fun to watch. My better half loves to watch shows that I refer to as 'mindless comedies' and this certainly qualifies.
None the less, I'm sure I will enjoy this one. :p

I hope FaceTime does get the ability to handle multiple calls at once someday - and group chats!

Oh, you mean like iChat? Being able to video chat with 2 other people while having a shared virtual whiteboard felt like the future!

I wonder if FaceTime was originally called iChat X?

Yeah, exactly and you have proof that Apple paid to have that put in the script to promote the iPad? Of course you don't.

I do, I know a lot of other people do.

Yep, for personal and business use. Half the time I can't even remember what I needed to buy at the store. I can't imagine anyone that wouldn't find good use of the Reminders app.

I love Modern Family but I find product placement advertising distracting, awkward and disturbing. Even if it a product I like. Like the many TV shows that shoehorn's the Windows Surface/logo or everyone has a specific phone and uses the default ring or text tone. I want to be entertained during the show and not feel like I am in one very long commercial amusing or not.

Man, Al Bundy is old!!! :)

BTW, I tried to watch this show. I just can't to me Ed O'Neill is always Al Bundy and watching him in another role just doesn't fit.

Same with me. Plus, Married was/is much funnier than the episodes of MF that I've seen.

----------

For sure! It's that kind of politically correct, supposed-to-be-feel-good slop that mindless liberals and other morons love to watch on TV. With Apple's ghetto headphone line and talk of laptops too thin to plug anything into them this is hardly surprising.

Definitely only them because [most] conservatives wouldn't last two minutes of any episode of Modern Family. They'd hate it with a passion, I have little doubt.

An entire episode (22 minutes or so) is nothing compared to that awful looking movie coming out called "Unfriended," the entirety of which takes place during a Skype session on what look like MacBooks. Yes, an entire movie comprised of teens Skyping one another. Ugh.

But you're speaking as if it's only about Tech. The same thing goes on with clothing. More so with clothing. Nike and Adidas get more product placement in TV shows than anything else. 99% of the time you will see the actors wearing Nike shoes or Adidas shoes and they make it quite obvious.

This goes on with everything. Kitchen appliances get lots of product placement. If you are fan of the culinary world you can recognize many of the brands in the kitchen on these TV shows. But many times its not really product placement, it's just normal furnishing of products for a TV show. They have to use something. Often I see the Apple logo covered up on the back of MacBooks. Now in regards to Microsoft when you see the SURFACE name on the back of their tablets on TV shows that's blatant product placement by Microsoft, especially Microsoft has been trying to throw the Surface in everybody's face.

I don't have WiFi issues, but a hell of a lot of people on Macrumors never shut up about them haha

I come to the realization that most users don't know anything about wireless and use the cheapest wireless router they could find. Plus most users are using a router that is at least 2 ½ years old. No wonder they are having wireless problems.

The ones that other devices running good on the router are the real mysteries. IMHO most them most likely did a Yomsemite Upgrade and are now having problems. I now just point them to the article Fix WiFi problems in OS X Yosemite totry to cure their wireless problems and urge them to get either a Netgear dual pane router or an Apple router. A dual lane router is the way to go now since all the manufacture of cheap routers Lie right on box when they say they support 5Ghz.
