That's a good advice, thanks for sharing.
I'm just even happier I don't need to use any of that, ILEX, Semi-Restore or whatever.
Next thing you'll be saying you don't need evasi0n or whatever

?? You having battery issues on stock? Why not do a reset all and setup as new?
You'll need full blobs to downgrade an IP4, be careful what you buy!
Well, ua my batteey isnt the best. I need ro do an erase all setings soon too. I have thise bothersome 6.1.3 and 6.1.4 updates that keep sownloasing themselves...
About downgrades, i was told if i get any iphone 4 on ios 5.1.1 or 5.0.1, even ota updated, i can dump blobs and downgrade/restore to 5.1.1. Even @iH8Sn0w told me that even ota updates are ok to dump. Is this incorrect?
Yes. So i want an iphone 4 on 5.1.1 so i can dump the blobs and always be anle to restore to 5.1.1.I'm not sure but to dump the blobs on an A4 device, don't you have to be on that version to dump the blobs? For example, if you're on 6.1.2, you can only dump the blobs for that firmware. You can't dump blobs for say, 5.1.1. Is this incorrect?
This is why I don't post often in the restore threads. I don't know the process well enough to feel comfortable speaking up. I would hate to give bad advice and someone loses their jailbreak.
Edit: You do know that you can prevent the iOS from downloading the firmware update file right?

It's a gamble, because some are OTA and the ramdisk for those is different and it won't work.
According to dhlizard (in a thread/post a while back), it (dumping blobs) doesn't matter if the update is OTA or not because of the limera1n exploit
The OTA Ramdisk thing only affects re-restores
I think he ment something different. Downgrade is basically the same as a restore for A4 devices.
From the Dev-team blog:
2. You DO NOT QUALIFY for iOS5-to-iOS5 restores if you got to your current 5.x via an OTA update
the tickets saved by Cydia, redsn0w, and TinyUmbrella do not cover OTA update ramdisk images
even if they did, its the wrong kind of ramdisk (youd need to start at that earlier pre-OTA FW)
ok, every time i download semi restore, and i open it, it says ads corrupt. mac with lion 10.7.5. any suggestions? also, iPod touch 4g iOS 6.1.
You should definitely try their support. No better person to help you than the dev.
Well, i asked him on twitter. No responce as of yet.
But you do realize this is an issue with your machine only right? I mean, the tool works, just not on your computer.
What's the probability of someone find out the culprit?
I would say, reinstall the OS. Clearly there's something wrong with it.![]()
So, my mac is the problem? I just did a reinstall of lion a month ago... I dont want to have to do that again...
It's not your Mac. There is a problem on Lion and below. The developer said on Twitter that you should use Mountain Lion, the SSH version, or the version for windows until he has a chance to get access to Lion.

So i should download ssh?
If you want to run the tool and don't have access to Mountain Lion or Windows then I guess that's your only option at the present time.
I believe that one of the options in ILEX RAT does pretty much the same thing as Semi-restore. You can download and run it from your phone.
well this program failed for me. I try and use the windows version and get assertion failures. I then run the SSH version on iPad and it resets everything like it should except iPad shows 36gigs in use still. It seemed to delete my apps yet the storage still shows as if they haven't been removed.
I've gone through file system and cannot figure out what is taking up the space. There is no app or app data in the folders.

Install "gawk" from Cydia. SSH into your iPhone and run this command:
find / -iname "*" -ls | sort -rn -k 7.1 | gawk '{print $7,$11}' > files.txt
The text file will contain a sorted list of all files with the largest files at the top of the list. There are two fields separated by a space. The first field is the file size and the second field is the file name including full path.
If you prefer the file name first, switch the 7 and 11 in the gawk command.
On my iPhone the file was 5.5MB in size so make sure you have room.
Alternatively, you can run the command line using mobileterminal and view the file using ifile
If you're using mobileterminal, make sure to give yourself root access
The file should be in /root
