Aaaaaand this will lead to another movie...

I think there's a huge difference between the numbers of people who need to buy a biography of a business leader in order to make it a big success and the number of people who need to go see a biopic to make it a big success. I don't expect the success of the movie currently in production will lead to a "me too" movie.

Personally, i would want all his info at one time vs strategically spreading it out, but well.... another Steve book to add to your :apple: collection

Steve Jobs was great at knowing what people would want in the latest tech, but He made some seriously bad decisions. His last bad move was in choosing Walter Isaacson to write his biography. The guy knew virtually nothing about the computer and tech fields, I don't think he even liked Jobs. The book is a testament to those facts. Don't see how this new book could be as bad as Isaacson's book, but well see. ;)

How does Gruber know it's "an accurate retelling of the life of Jobs" ?

If they had just left out the "sensational" part, I might have actually been inclined to read it.

I agree with you...but on the other hand "more of the same and possibly boring as hell for those who already read other books on the subject" is just too lenghty to be a good phrase in advertisement ;)

The cover and title of Becoming Steve Jobs are giving me a distinctly Hannibal Rising vibe:

Image

In a way it reminds me of a 1985 A-Ha video

Edit: The "montage" that you linked more so that the cover, but both kind of gave me that vibe.

I prefer to actually read or watch the content I'm critical of.

Let'$ milk thi$ as much a$ po$$ible. :(

Bust out the tinfoil, boys!

For all the people interested in acting like Jobs thinking they'll become successful by doing so.

nope. For all the people who want to know how an exiled, brash young man rose to build the most valuable company in the world.

----------

Arrogant is right. Transformed, I don't agree.

Oh, so you knew him? Tell us about your personal, insightful relationship that was closer than people who knew him for 25 years.

----------

I'm working on a book, too, called, Becoming Really Tired of Hearing About Steve Jobs.

How about this one -- You're On the Wrong Site

----------

Other than the obvious money grab, I view this as more as the authors saying "we thought Issacson's book sucked, so we're going to tell his story our way".

Writing a niche book isn't some sort of money grab. Writing most books doesn't pay.

----------

"The book explores the story of how Steve Jobs made the transformation from an arrogant young man exiled from Apple to the visionary leader that skyrocketed Apple to fame."

Pixar and NeXT. #saveaclick

Merely mentioning them doesn't explain anything.

Jobs wanted somebody to tell the story of who he was to his kids - and who he was wasn't just tech. That's why he picked isaacson. I've been at a small event with isaacson and it seemed to me he does like and admire jobs, even while he doesn't understand tech.

Preordered my iBooks copy. The hard part—as with the Isaacson book—is keeping up with normal Apple rumors without reading spoilers about the stories in the book.

Let's see.... Someone who is writing a book... For profit.... Is marketing their investment?!?!?!

Once I wanted to eat at this fast food place called McDonalds, but their Slogan is Lovin' It. And I have never had McDonalds before so for SURE I am not Lovin it. SCREW THEM

Just voicing my humble opinion.

There must be a third option. Surely they can come up with something that doesn't sound like a cheap tabloid slogan that I'd expect from, say, the National Enquirer.

Point taken, but I'm a little jaded by this point on the bio scene. If it is good, please let me know.

Just preordered it. I have to become a ersponasble adult and stop clicking the buy button without further thought

I rather enjoyed the official Jobs biography. There could be quite some bias mixed in there seeing as how at the time it came out when I read it I was quite the Apple fanboy, but I think anyone with an interest in this industry and its politics, emotion, and money would get something out of reading it. I'd read an official bio of Gates, Zuckerberg, Dorsey, Page--you get the idea--in a heartbeat because what these pioneers have done to advance technology is just mind-blowing.

Zuckerberg? Come on, Facebook is successful but hardly a technology juggernaut, neither is Twitter or all similar firms.

Same here, not sure why all the whining, I enjoyed it a great deal. Loved to read a chapter then go on YouTube and watch the video of the show or speech refered to in the book.

Oh nice! The '05 Stanford speech still gives me goose bumps!

Definitely. Industry feats aren't just limited to hardware. Besides, the company has to be doing something right with having 1.25 billion registered accounts. Facebook isn't my forte personally, but their connecting of people is second to none.
