just one dumb question .. when the download is complete , what do I have to do with it , so it Updates my iMac to 10.5.5 :)

If you are using Safari to download then when it is finished double-click the .pkg file in your downloads folder or even in the downloads window in Safari.

It will start the update automatically - probably take 5 minutes then it will ask you to restart and you will get a second "boing" a couple of minutes later (this is normal) then check about my mac and it should show 10.5.5. Done.

Hope it all goes well.

Just the same principle though I think that Firefox defaults to downloading files to the desktop (maybe you have changed it ?) - you will soon find out where it goes - when it finishes double click it.

logana again many thanks for that , there may be a light at the end of the Update tunnel :) I will of course let you know how things turn out

Hi again - there won't be anything in the downloads folder because you used software update to download the file but the file is incomplete/corrupt/whatever.

Two choices - move the incomplete update (a.receiptdb) from the receipts folder to the desktop then run Software update again and it will download the file again (hopefully all of it this time) and then install the update.....or

Go to Apple.com and then download the update (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1055update.html - this will save it to your download folder and you will be able to see the download progress and should be able to stop and start the download as required.

Good luck !

After thinking about this situation, I changed my mind and wanted to try the ....

move the incomplete update (a.receiptdb) from the receipts folder to the desktop then run Software update again and it will download the file again (hopefully all of it this time) and then install the update

so ive moved the ( a.receiptdb) from the receipts folder and put it on my desktop, I then went to the  software updates, and it checked for current updates, the 10.5.5. update was there, so I ticked the Install Now ...
then the box .. software update requires that you type your password
came on screen. Next a box came on screen saying ... The new software requires that you restart your computer ... Not Now or Restart

So it looks like that the original 10.5.5 update that keeps sticking is still trying to install its self, even after I removed the ( a.receiptdb) from the receipts folder.

I'm not too sure what to do now ..? any advice please:(

Plan B - go to Apple.com and download with Firefox.....

Software update appears to know that it has downloaded the update (but alas not all of it !).

Safer to download it again (with Firefox) and leave software update alone..

Your not doing this on a iMac G5 PPC are you? If you are there is an error with software update that I may be able to help you with?

I have issues after installing the 10.5.5 update via Software Update and want to install the combo update on top of 10.5.5. I know there is a way to do this because I've done it before, but I cannot find it now. Will someone point me in the correct direction?

Thanks!
