iPhone 5s, IOS 7.0.4.

I routinely see the App Store 'Update All' link grayed out and nothing seems to re-enable it short of forcing the app to close (flicking it off the top of the screen). Despite that, I will have several apps waiting to be updated.

Didn't see any other reference to this peculiarity. Just me? Secret gesture I need to learn?

Nope. I only have one ID.

When I restart the App Store, after forcing it to close, then Update All is no longer gray.

The reason that it is greyed out if because the automatic download. When the words are grey and you cannot press it this means that the apps are updating. When the words are blue you can manually update.

Next time it is grey look for the icon on the home screen. It will be updating.

I'll see about that next time, but I don't think so. I have left the app store alone for a day or so and no automatic updating occurred. The individual lines in the update list say 'Update', allowing me to update them one at a time, I just cannot Update All.

Must be something with the OS, this happened to my AIR today. Happened last week on my 5s too, not a big deal to me though.

Often I'll go to buy something in the App Store or itunes and I'll get the never ending loop, I'll have to force close and reDL. Only happens occasionally though, hopefully 7.1 irons out some of these kinks.

This happens to me, but once I click "update now" on one of the updates, suddenly the "update all" button is blue and clickable again, so I click on it at that point.

I'm having an issue with this too, force closing the App Store doesn't help. The 'Update All' option is grayed out and i can't update apps individually even.Whenever i try to,it'll not start the update but instead, opening the app.I'm pretty sure i didn't make any significant changes to the phone recently and i can't use the 'Reset all settings' too.

I have EXACTLY the same problem!
iPod touch 5G, 7.0.6, jailbroken. I did not change anything as far as I know; the Update All button was suddenly grayed out a few days ago. Clicking Update for individual apps does not update the app, but OPENS the app. However, if you search for the specific app, you can click on Update for that app.
I didn't try 'Reset all settings', I don't want to do that.

Anyone else has this problem or knows how to fix it? Only on jailbroken devices?

I've also just noticed the issue today on my iphone 5 jail broken for iOS 7.
Update all is grayed out and clicking on each individual update opens that app instead of updating. I'd want to say it's a cydia bug that is manifesting in this weird behavior. I'd also love to know if there is any solution.

Dash-

Same problem here on my iPad 2 running iOS 7.0.6. Also jailbroken but I highly doubt that has anything to do with it. Tapping Update does not update, but instead launches the app. And noticed too that Update All is grayed out.

This all started this week, as I have Updates as recent as October 4. The problem appears specific to iOS 7.0.6 since my jailbroken iPhone 5S running iOS 7.1.2 has no problems.

Apple changed something in the App Store I think- perhaps trying to address the problems Updating that iPad Air users had been reporting with iOS 8.

I don't plan on updating my iPad 2 to iOS 8 as reports are that performance is just too poor. So hoping Apple fixes this.

Any other iOS 7.0.6 users who can chime in?

Another One

Yeah - Pretty sure Apple somehow disabled App Store Updates on jailbroken devices this week.

iPad mini Retina - 7.06 jailbroken, worked last week (updates through 10/4) and no changes on the iPad this week.

Eff you Apple... If it is true, I'm out.

Nope- as I said, updates working fine on my jailbroken iPhone 5S running iOS 7.1.2. The issue appears to be only with devices running iOS 7.0.x. Probably unintentional and hopefully will be fixed. I doubt they will be in any huge hurry though.

I can confirm that I am experiencing the same issue on both an iPhone 5 and iPad 2 running 7.0.4 jailbroken. Hoping for a resolution or work-around besides individually searching and updating apps.

To be clear, checked my devices:
iPod touch 5G on 7.0.6 (jailbroken) HAS this issue;
iPad 2 on 7.1.1 (NOT jailbroken) does NOT have this issue.

Work-around that seems to work for me:
Switch on automatic app updating.
(Settings > iTunes & App Store > switch on 'Updates' under 'AUTOMATIC DOWNLOADS')

Nice to see I'm not alone though, I didn't have high hopes when I found this old thread.

Just to add another data point, I have this exact problem (JB'n rMini 7.0.4).

Be careful with that though! Some of my biggest tech disasters have been app "updates", so I've always avoided Auto Update for Apps. I read the reviews before updating and let hobbyists and madmen find the disasters first!

So I'm happy to let my apps that worked just fine last week on 7.0.6 stay un-updated for now.

I had a similar problem when I was on 8.0, it would let me press the button but would throw up an error that I needed to be on 8.0.2 for all of the apps to update. So I had to manually update each app because it wouldn't just update all the apps that didn't need 8.0.2.

I don't know if it the cause for this problem but sounds kind of similar.

My 5 is jailbrokrn and noticed this today. However, tapping on the app icon will open a new page for the app and Update will work from there.
