We have this on our ipad mini, and we are NOT jailbroken, and never have been...

Just started today....

Started this weekend on jb'd IOS7 iPad Mini. I read to open the app page and choose update there, did that and it updated that one app but I have probably 20 other apps showing an Update button under the Updates section and opening the individual page doesn't help, just says Open in there now too. However even though I have like 20 that say Update next to them the badge showing I have updates waiting has vanished. Very odd, tried reset settings and reboot iPad twice and no difference.

Same here. IPad mini, 7.0.6, not jailbroken, started today. And if I click the update button on an app it just opens the app.

OK so I think this goes even deeper. This morning I got an iTunes receipt for purchasing https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/air-keyboard-remote-mouse/id446643462?mt=8 for $2.99 yesterday. Well I didn't purchase it, I grabbed it from another source if you know what I mean a while back, but I didn't buy it from the app store. So now this makes me think maybe they are making some changes in regards to jb'd devices and maybe when I hit Update All yesterday or day before that app was one of them with an update and when it tried to update it it saw that I got it from elsewhere then decided to buy it for me? I dunno I'm really confused but this is the only thing I can think of, I definitely didn't purchase this app yesterday but somehow got charged for it.

That'd be weird. I mean, how can they charge you if you didn't fill in your password to confirm the purchase? Or did you fill in your password shortly before that for another reason?
Just guessing here, and hoping you are wrong (although I didn't pirate any app store apps)! Maybe I'll try the same with a €0,89 app, just to see what happens.

Neither my iPhone 5 nor iPad air are jail broken. Both are running 7.0.3 and both are experiencing this update issue. Soft reset did not work, nor did enabling auto updates. Hopefully the solution will be discovered soon.

Same problem here. Pressing update just opens the app. If non-JB'd phones are experiencing the same thing Apple will probably have a fix out soon.

Same issue here. I cannot update any apps at all unless I delete them and then reinstall the new version. Then I risk losing app saved data. I cannot tap "update all". When I tap update on a specific app from the updates section it just opens the app... When I search for an app in App Store I don't have the option to update, the blue button only says "open"...

Edit: forgot to mention, I am on iPhone 5s on iOS 7.0.4 with appsync installed

Also, enabling automatic updating did not change a thing, I figured it wouldn't anyways, something is preventing all updating manual or automatic.

To be clear, checked my devices:
iPod touch 5G on 7.0.6 (jailbroken) HAS this issue;
iPad 2 on 7.1.1 (NOT jailbroken) does NOT have this issue.

Work-around that seems to work for me:
Switch on automatic app updating.
(Settings > iTunes & App Store > switch on 'Updates' under 'AUTOMATIC DOWNLOADS')

Nice to see I'm not alone though, I didn't have high hopes when I found this old thread.

Did that and the apps were updated, after a short while. The funny thing is that instead of showing 'Open' beside every updated app in the updates section of the App Store,it shows 'Update'.I've confirmed that the apps were updated (compared the latest version in the App Store and on my phone, they were the same). Not that it actually affects anything but i just find it weird.

That's really bad how we gotta through workarounds to update our apps on ios 7.
And why isn't apple fixing that since its clearly a bug on their end.
The apps that are updated should display open instead of update.
And the apps that need an update and you click update should just be updating instead of opening.
How come they're not fixing this?

Jailbroken ipad2 on 7.0.4 here. Same greyed out problem mentioned numerous time in this theead. I am getting used to the new apple, and it's new standards. Should we really expect a fix with the new Apple? Perhaps there is some truth to all those that are saying Apple changed after Jobs passed.

Even though I am very tempted to get an ipad mini2 with so many sweet deals in the refurb section, I am starting to sway. I am now thinking of going cheap Windows 8.1 tablet. No jailbreaking, use REAL FULL Desktop apps including the old iTunes 10.7, and no worrying about obsolescence after a couple of years like my ipad1. I mean even my ancient pentimentom4 desktop is now running Windows7 and it is TEN YEARS OLD!

My iPad is doing exactly the same. Jailbroken iPad 3 running 7.0.4. Update all is greyed out. And when I click the 'update' next to the app all it does is open the app.

I can update if I search for the app click it then click update. Or if I have automatic updates on they download fine. But have been unable to update via 'update all' for about a week.

My jail broken iPhone 5 on 7.1.2 is absolutely fine.

If just leave them and not worry about updating but there are some apps that won't work when there's an update available. Like Clash of Clans and Tapped out. If there's an update when you open the app it just says there's an update and you can't carry on and play until you've updated.

Has someone filed a radar at least? I cleared appstore cookies and cache everywhere I found, the problem persists, obviously. Automatic updates also don't work. It's definitely AppStore back-end that is to blame.

It got so annoying last night I ended up just updating my Mini to 8.1 and forgoing my jailbreak. Besides 8.1 is jb'd now as of yesterday :) It fixed my update issue.

I had mentioned before that on the iPhone, tapping the app icon will take you the app page and you can update from there. On the iPad/iPad Mini that won't work. I had to search for the app in the App Store, then get to the app page and update from there. A few more steps but at least you can update using these methods.

I just upgraded my Mini to 8.0.1 and now the Update All button works. What a way to run a railroad!

Got it! Open the App Store and click on the Update tab. Close the App Store in switcher. Open the App Store and quickly click on the Update All button in top right corner while it's still blue right before it turns gray. This worked for me and I was able to update all 30 apps.

iPhone 5 ios 7.0.4 Jailbroken

Good luck.

I have the same issue with my iPad and there are a couple of threads in the iOS 7 subforum. I enabled automatic updates and after a day or two, it seems as if they are updating, though its hard to tell for sure since they also are not showing the version numbers. The individual updates still show Update and if you click, it opens the app, but on the few that have the version number in the comments and that also have a way for me to see the version number in the app settings, it seems to match up.

Yes, I also discovered this trick and was about to post it here but you beat me to it. I am running a jailbroken iPad and have noticed it since the iOS8 release!
