I'm about to pull the trigger and pick up a couple docks on ebay. I have one last question for you. How hard was it to get the bottom off and how much or how little damage did you do to it?
 
Thanks for the info on this mod, I just did mine yesterday removing the front lip of the slot with a Dremel tool.

The whole process took 10 minutes on the original Apple dock.

To answer the quetion above, I used a small flat screwdriver to pry the cover off from each side, then lift the white cover off. It wasn't hard physically once I got over the fear of the white cover breaking off :)

That's what I'm gonna try too, use the ol' Dremel to clean out the slot.
So once you got the sides popped off, the front came off easier?
 
Nice, glad to hear it's gone well so far - is the dock working well?

Any confirmations on iPods/iPads/iPhones that work would be great; as soon we we have a fairly good list together I can upload a guide for the forum!

I just confirmed that you need to use the oem dock. The one's from china are cheap junk and is totally different from oem. In the trash it goes.
