Very odd, mine started to fail all the time, but is now working just as good as before, or probably slightly faster.

7.1 drastically improved Touch ID for me. Definitely take it into apple it if restoring it doesn't fix it.

Worked better, then as before [doesn't work for me]

I turned off touch ID on my 5S a couple of days after I got last October it because it just never worked consistently, and it was faster to just enter a passcode. After updating to 7.1, I turned it back on and re-entered my fingerprints, and it worked great for about 2 days, then became very unreliable. I tend to have dry skin, so that may be the reason, but I've turned Touch ID back off. Oh well, I just wait for the retina-scanning model...

touch sensor issues

upgraded to 7.1, touch sensor was slower, I tried deleting the existing fingerprints and adding new ones in to no avail.. In fact the sensor stopped working at all or it would freeze when the fingerprint image came up in settings. Did a restore on the phone and that didn't help either.. Called applecare, described problem, they suggested genius bar.. went to genius bar, replicated the problem and was told its a known issue and a patch should be forthcoming

I found that with the update the phone is slower detecting and processing the print, but the accuracy seems higher.

Ok, so a couple of things...

The posts by people saying that Touch ID works great from them aren't helpful. It works for you, great. And? That helps the OP how? What's the point of saying you're not having a problem? This problem is rather widespread.

Anyway, my wife's 5S has the same problem. It generally works for me, though I have to rub-and-hold the sensor to get it to work. It's like rubbing a genie's lamp. This process doesn't work for my wife at all.

Deleted prints and tried to re-add, didn't work for her but using the above method and being creative I was able to re-add my print.

Factory reset the phone, still didn't work. Worked fine before the update, so doesn't seem like a hardware problem. I hope Apple comes through with a patch soon, my wife is getting tired of me breaking her stuff... :)

Same here. Slow to respond and sometimes doesn't read at all whereas before 7.1, Touch ID worked like a champ and super quick. I've deleted and added prints several times and no dice.

Strange that it improved things for some users and broke it for others. I wonder if there's multiple hidden hardware revisions out there. Might be interesting to hear from everyone as to when you bought your 5s.

This may sound like a weird question, but does your TouchID behave the same way when the iPhone is plugged in?

I have noticed that when my phone is being charged via a AC adapter, TouchID is non-functional. If it is being charged via my laptop or not being charged at all, it works.

I'm having the same issue. I'm even having difficulty adding my prints after removing them all.

Mine has worked great since updating. It's a tad slower when swiping on a notification from the lock screen and scanning, but not a huge deal.

I've tried redoing my fingers and restarting, but it's just a little slower for notifications.
