If you keep waiting for the newest and best thing...you'll be waiting forever. Just tell yourself tomorrow or the next Tuesday or the one after that will be the release day. I'll be sitting here on my current one till better rumors are out there.

Ya sure you should buy when you need it, but isn't it reasonable to look at if an update is likely before shelling out $2000 on a computer? I don't need a new computer right now, but I want one within a few weeks. If Amazon and the other retailers gets a new boost of stock, I will order one right away and admit that I was wrong about an update. My hunch is they will do a minor bump, but you are right that there are other ways to argue it...

Completely reasonable, advisable. If you're fine with what you have, stick with it to the new one comes out. It kind of sucks if you buy something and a month later they come out with a better one for the same price. None of us can say for sure when it will come..could be tomorrow..could be January, could even be June.
My guess is a minor bump too..I don't get caught up in specs talk since half the things people guess aren't in the update..still waiting on a blu-ray drive though haha. Would have been useful the other day my power was out for the day..I had a 100% charge on my MBP and a back up battery if that wasn't enough...could have watched one of the 300+ blu-rays I own but had to look for a DVD..after going through 20 cases I got sick of looking.

I'm waiting for a refresh also. My MBP is my main computer, and I could use a quad core and better graphic card, since I have an external 2560x1440 monitor now, and sometimes I feel the 330M with its 256 Mb isn't cutting it anymore.

This might be the perfect time, because I still could use my optibay, and next year new model with Ivy Bridge is said to ditch the superdrive, and I really need the speed of my m4 128 Gb SDD plus the 750 Gb Scorpio black on optibay. I'm pretty sure the touted redesign will prevent using a second hard drive within the MBP.

What would be perfect: a cpu speed bump, maybe add a radeon 6800 on hi-end 15" and 17", and selling the entry 15" ($1799) with the SB 2.2 Ghz + Radeon 6750 1Gb.

Would buy one the next minute to replace my '10 MBP...

I didn't mean to start arguments and flaming. I was just posting what a local store told me. I went in and returned my MacBook Pro 13" because the 1280x800 resolution was just to small for me. So I asked to place an order for a 15" highres. They said they couldn't because of BTO option was not available anymore for the 15" and that "Typically means an update is close." So they gave me store credit and asked me to keep an eye on the site for a couple weeks and come back.

Just reporting my experience, no need to be hostile towards others.

No matter what this type of information will illicit negative feelings from those that hate when their machine isn't the latest and greatest. I appreciate you sharing the info since I'm on the fringe of buying and like to get the most out of my money (and I don't need it asap as I'm not using it to replace a dead work machine).

I do own a 2011 and I do hope there's an update soon. I upgrade every update so if my computer is about to be old..it makes no difference to me, I will have the latest thing. Let me change a few words around.. It's easy to spot those that don't currently own an Early 2011 Model because they are the first to spout garbage about knowing there will be an update.
It goes both ways.

Your missing the point of threads like these. People who don't have already want to make a smart purchase. No one is claiming to know factually that a refresh will occur this fall, but we are eager to share evidence of such.

From February 2011 to May 2012 is way too long for a product like the MBP to stay stagnant; especially with the momentum Apple is having. I am in no way saying early 2011 model is bad (aside from res on 13"). But there are enough buyers like myself that didn't have the money or need when the current model first released, and now feel that if there is a possibility of a minor refresh why not chance it and wait a month. Refresh or no refresh I will have a MBP by years end, but I am fine forgoing the use of one for now in the hopes of some bump.

IMHO, Apple will do a minor bump soon. I know Apple doesn't really care about the competition (Samsung Series 7), but they don't want to be left behind either.

What will they upgrade? Possibly just the processor - nothing else. Don't get me wrong, it would be nice to upgrade the resolution of the 13, but I think that will happen this time around.

You're probably right, there may only be a process bump, but if that's the case, perhaps there will be a slight price drop, too. I'm hoping for a processor bump, GPU bump, and a price drop, but I doubt we'll get all 3.

BLAH BLAH BLAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

*_In conclusion, in my opinion the earliest we can expect an update is beginning of December. If that passes and no update, earliest will be the middle of January._*

BLAH BLAH BLAH Take a step back and look at it from Apple's economic stand point; do you really think they pick random days and don't allow little leaks here and there? It builds hype and these plans work. Every new thing the introduce sells better than any before. I mean look, there are already talks about the iPhone 5 right after an update. There is a reason for everything that happens.

Glad you think so highly of my opinion. Thank you for sharing yours, although you make absolutely no sense.
I'm not going to bother reading or replying to anything else here, most of you take this too personally. Unfortunately since these are public forums I can't tell who is a spoiled teenager and who is a competent adult. To the people who are intelligent and decent, I hope we all see an update sooner than later.

What if the rumored shutdown of the factory (see front page) is the reason for the shortage, which in turn might lead some retailers to believe an update is imminent? I do not claim to know anything, just thought it'd be a relevant point for this thread.

I was thinking the same thing. If the unibody factory was really shut down, I'm pretty sure it'll delay any refresh past 2012.

hope theres better battery

what??? i just ordered the current 13" i7 mbp.....although i really hope they do bring back the 10hr battery life they had in pre-thunderbolt models as 7hrs isnt quite as good.

@thunderboldmac

as in the simpson serie they woudl say to you... haaaaa haaaa

next time check forums, also buyers guide.

Mmmmmhhhh... Any chance we are going to see the refresh this week? I am sure it won't be publicized, just a silent bump of processor and maybe video card. Crossing my fingers.

my mbpro 15" (latest model) just took a poop..
the keyboard is stuck in cap-lock mode... so I cannot login to the system.
I can hook an external keyboard up and it sorta works (i was able to back my stuff up). I was going to setup a repair, but I bought in March so my free year of support is good for another 5 months... I have an ipad and Imac I can use till then, so should I wait it out for a refresh, and maybe they upgrade me for free with my borked macbook pro?

The store is down

Hey guys! The Apple online store is down... They are coming back soon! Is this the upgrade coming? I hope so!

Update: false alarm

Well I was wrong and there was an update.
It's disappointing to me and I won't bother upgrading this time for the first time especially since I can avoid Lion for a bit longer. If you were in the market I hope it was worth the wait. Cheers
