I hope this does works again. I have yet to update the iPhone OS since I love to have free tethering. BENM is my hero.

Isn't the tethering APN hidden and changing the general APN only changed internet access on the phone and not on the tether.

For example O2 Ireland have apn as internet
However if you tether it uses the apn open.internet

Not sure what that means but sounds good to me! Can anyone use this info somehow?

Apparently not :(

I just tried it and I got this message. Interestingly, when this thread was started the profile was named "Thing" and now it is "AT&T (Beta)"

A lot of questions out there...maybe I can help some, I am jailbroken and unlocked on 3.1.2. I had to do all of the above to enable tethering. I have not looked in about a week if there was a good jailbreak for 3.1.3 yet. I can tell you that update 3.1.2 locked tethering, and unlocking your phone unlocks the tethering ability. I can also say that benm is not the only site anymore, try this - http://appleguru.org/i/ - or this - http://m.peacefulinsanity.com/Tether
One last word, if not yet, soon. it will only get better. I will guarantee that you WILL tether again, just may be some time. Hang in there and good luck!

FYI, the second link is dead.

NetShare and iProxy don't work the same way. The don't activate the official tethering mechanism.

They just share their internet connection via WiFi.

So - yes they still work.

K well that's good. Although not for me. Netshare hasn't worked for me since 3.1. :( Which really sucked because right after I got it I went for training for 3 months with no wifi :(

Sorry I should have been clearer.
iProxy - which works the same way as NetShare still works.
NetShare - which is quite old code, might or might not work. But the way they both work by-passes the tethering built into the iPhone.

No tethering on 3.1.3

I have tried almost all options
for my iPhone 3G with 3.1.3 and still no tethering. All the mobile config options fail. I can currently tether only through th iPhone modem app from cydia. iPhone modem is not as seamless or reliable but it works for quick and dirty use. I would still prefer a more "official" tethering option that activates the iPhones built in tethering feature, but no luck. I have one option left to try and that involves either downgrading my iPhone os version or downgrading the modem baseband or combination thereof. Meh.... But as of right now I'm to lazy.

thether - 3.1.2 OR 3.1.3

I just bought an iPhone last week. I updated to 3.1.3, not knowing about the tether issue. if i restore, will 3.1.2 give me tethering ? will I lose anything.

Did you get tethering working on 02 pay go? if so please pm me a guide please!

bump i've been trying to tether on 3.1.3 loooked at a dev site seems no one has it working just wondering if ne 1 on this forum has heard otherwise for at&t in Los Angeles

MyWi...get it on cydia after jailbreak with spirit. Course, you probably know this by now. MyWi is definitely worth paying for...it has the "fix tethering" button that fixes native tethering! It did for me, so I bought it. Worth a try. I am one that doesnt buy apps, I only use "free" stuff, but MyWi is worth it/. I dont mind in this case. Trust Me!

I have PDaNet working for my tethering, and it was free. It's in Cydia, under featured packages then scroll down.
