If Plex can be shoehorned into the 3rd gen ATV, I'll buy one in a heartbeat and put my Mini to use elsewhere in the house. For some bloody reason, Netflix Canada & Plex don't play well together and I'm stuck having to use my noisy PS3 as a Netflix device.

Consolidating down to a single black little box would be a dream come true.

Well i have the 1st gen Apple TV (which im now selling)..and rent films and have my music on it (which to be fair wasnt the main reason for buying anyway). Wanted to upgrade to the second but pleased i waited for the 3rd one.

I'm going to start buying HD programmes..saves room and dont have to keep putting discs in the 'noisy' and very old PS3 because im lazy! :D

Preordered quite late..but thankfully before the estimates changed.

It's not a question of "can" they - absolutely they could - it's a question of "will" they.

It really smells like the goal is to have the "console" be the iPad, and the aTV just provides the link to the big screen. We're still about one generation of iPad away from smoking current-gen console performance - call it a year from now.

Then all we need is physical controllers and a GameCenter that isn't a pile of crap.

That's right... that's the one billion dollars question.

The only thing I also regret with using the iPad as the main console is the physical controllers. As much I love the touchscreen, I do want a real gamepad to play, having physical touch to the buttons, XY Joysticks, etc... Holding a 9.7" iPad in my hands to play isn't that good for the Living Room "Game Console" experience...

Maybe a smaller iPad (such the 7.85" rumor one), would probably be better and small enough to be insert in a "gamepad" controller (like the iPhone gaming case)... something close to the new Nintendo. In any case, that's interesting to see Apple's coming in that domain more and more... (The return of the Apple Pippin would be marked by the future Apple TV?)

Having GameCenter's coming on OS X, it could be a great news... if they do it way better. The idea is there thought...
