Not to be picky about it, but you do know that asking and getting answers from 1 000 americans is enough to make a fairly accurate prediction about what for instance the american public think? Also, you could quite easily get an approximate by looking at how big of a market TV's of a certain minimum size is in comparison to the TV/projector market itself, and taking an average viewing distance... Maybe 1 % is a good guess, maybe not. I don't know. But you sure as **** don't have to survey the whole world ;)

So are you saying that every time someone writes one of these "99% of the market" comments in this thread that they've surveyed a sufficiently large sample to back them up? And no, 1000 Americans is not a representative sample. I do marketing research for a living. I know something about statistical analysis . That's why I find such comments (in heavy abundance in these threads) so funny.

Still can't figure out that not caring as much as you do isn't quite the same as arguing against something....even on the morning of your "victory" you can't help chasing down those windmills, can ya...

Are you reading the same comments that I am? I'm reading comments from people that a 1080p :apple:TV rollout does not affect in any way whatsoever. Their 720p or SD will still play exactly as it does now on exactly the hardware they have now. Etc.

There is no "victory". Yes, I'm personally excited that I may be about to get the product feature I've long wanted in this product, but a word like "victory" implies winners & losers. In my view, nobody loses as a new :apple:TV doesn't force anything on anyone else. Go with the opposing view though, and those of us that wants this particular benefit don't get it and thus are the losers. See the difference?

My Dream?

- The Apple TV to have a Internal Camera (just like Kinnect, for Game and Facetime)
- support 1080p connected to any TV set with HMDI and 5.1
- USB Connector (for external drive such Time Machine)
- running iOS with full iTunes Live for Live TV Channels Streaming based on a subscription (between $19.99/mo to $29.99/mo... All you can eat)
- with TiVO feature from iCloud: automatically watch a show with Ads, even if you haven't record it... or buy it without Ads from iTunes Store
- running all Retina Display iPad 3-ready games directly in 1080p on the TV
- iCloud sync
- No more SD/HD prices. Only two ways: Streaming (from the subscription) or HD download (with automatic adaptive bandwidth system detection)
- Lower prices: HD movie at $9.99, HD TV Shows at $0.99 for 22min Episodes and $1.99 for 44min Episodes

Then the $39 would be the wireless "GamePad", just like the PS3 or Xbox360.

With most of the game under 10 bucks, with free GameCenter, ability to start a game on TV and continue it on iPhone, iPod or iPad... or even pretty soon maybe even on Mountain Lion... that would definitely be a huge reason to buy a $99 Apple TV...

The best Media Server/Game Console/Living Room Digital Hub device.

Let's see if my dream will come true :)

PS: Of course, running iOS, the Apple TV in my dream would run Boxee, Hulu, Netflix, and all current and future Apps for TV and Entertainment :)

Those who don't care if ATV goes 1080p aren't forcing anything on you, they simply don't care...why you twist that uncaring into some kind personal persecution is beyond me...you have always made this a "you're either with us or against us" argument when it comes to 1080p...for the most part, it's all in your head...once again, not caring as much as you...and let's face it, you care ALOT about 1080p, is not necessarily the same as being against you or 1080p...yet you always seem to take that stance...

yeah, I don't why these 1080p people get all worked up about it. 720p is still quite good.

especially this guy, he/she really gets upset about stuff and kinda craps up the forum.

oh well.

Because Apple love their closed formats. They enjoy forcing their userbase to comply by their rules.

Thats not my opinion btw. That's my father's opinion. Someone who isnt very tech savvy, and is pretty much your average iPad user. Or he was, until he sold it for a Transformer Prime so he could actually play Avi files without the need for additional software.

Why would anyone want to play .avi files? It is an outdated 20-year-old container that doesn't support modern video handling needs. Sometimes you just have to change with the times.

I am being serious. The ATV looks quite nice and I think the Boxee Box looks like ax XBox that's half-way smashed.

If you care about interior design, the ATV makes prefect sense as it's not obtrusive at all.

----------

Don't take it personally and I didn't look down on anyone else's opinion.

I just think the Boxee looks like crap (or like something a 16-year old would want). The ATV is quite classic and sleek. The MacMini would be optimal, but I think it's too expensive at 599€.

That's why people push the ATV2 to get the most out of the hardware.

Being totally silent is extremely nice as well (no fans is very nice.)

I can't believe I'm reading this. Why do you care what a fist sized device looks like when its going to be sitting in the corner next to a TV? Its *not* an essential piece of furniture at home. Its a piece of technology thats supposed to be functional;

Consumer:
Hi, I'd like a device that connects via HDMI and plays all of my movie files as well as others encoded in MKV, x264, Xvid and DivX at up to 1080p?

Sales rep: You'll want either a Boxee Box or Western Digital Live. Apple TV doesnt handle most formats nor can it playback 1080p.

*************************************************************

You really have your priorities backwards.

While you may enjoy a marginally smaller device, the rest of us who bought the device for its intended purpose will be or already are enjoying superior playback functionality with a superior feature set (SD Card slot (great for my camera), QWERTY Remote, etc).

Yea with the black hole of suck that is Gamecenter. No platform on which you can chat to friends while you game with them.

As for $4.99 "console" quality games? 9/10 of them are direct rip offs from Gameloft, and have the looks and charm of a PS1-2 game.

With GameCenter on every iPhone, every iPod, every iPad, every Apple TV and soon every MacBookPro, iMac, MacMini and MacPro... it will be A LOT of users and friends to chat with. Probably over 160 Millions of potential users.

Regarding game quality? With new CPU, new GPU, more memory and higher definition screen... I'm definitely not worry about quality games that can very quickly reach and even overpass the current high-end console quality games.

Apple will always have a very important advantage on Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft... They do have one of the biggest On-line store. Which provide so much features such: buy a game without going out to the store, no physical support (less cost for distribution), one click to buy, full integration on devices, etc...

Once you can have an App developed for one Apple device that can run on all other Apple devices, it will also increase considerably the number of users and gamers... but also developers. To win a battle, you need content for users... And then you need developers to make that content. I even don't know if there's as much developers on PS3, Xbox and Nintendo than on App Store... And they can have big name companies too.

So don't under-estimate the capacities for Apple to come in the Game Market with a new Apple TV. They definitely have all The last ones who did that was Sega with Sony and then Nintendo with Microsoft.

Because there is still a lot of content from various sources thats in AVI format?? Its not like everyone always has the choice to select a superior format depending on what theyre doing. For example; older point and shoot cameras (and I wouldnt be surprised if some newer ones still used AVI as well).

It doesn't matter though, AVI is now a pretty universal format. The added capability of playing back the format won't hinder your experience. But the fact that Apple TV can't even playback an old ass standard format like AVI is another reason to avoid this limited piece of junk like the plague.

I wonder if the new B82 device will utilise the BT SMART facility rumoured to be in the new ATV? Would be great to be able to monitor sensors etc., although very little has been done with the iPhone thus far apart from Car Park Smart.

Most of the Swedes I know don't like the "new Stockholm," isn't doesn't mesh with Jantelagen so well.

Too much money (the Norrlands Guld commercials are correct), but in the last two years, I think the city has really struggled (just check out the whole Sergels Torg area).

YouTube: video

That's what happens when a bunch of people from smaller cities move to a larger city and act the way they think you're supposed to act there. I guess the "newcomers" has taken over now if what you're saying is true.

Oh well, less uptight people to share the city with during the summers can hardly be a bad thing. I'll just get my new iPad with retina display and chill out ;)

Talking about "funny" posts, yours actually made me laugh.

It'll be several generations before an Apple TV can out perform a PS3 or 360. As for Gamecenter being on every iPhone, iPod and iPad. It's almost useless I can't see my friends status, if they're online or not. What game they're currently playing. I also can't even send them messages, let alone invite them to a voice chat. And yes Apple does have a huge App store, but the Xbox and Playstation have a vast library of games. Plus Xbox live is on every Xbox and Windows Phone, with the launch of Windows 8 it'll be on PC's too.

I'm sorry but simply adding a controller to an Apple TV is not going to destroy the Wii, Xbox and PS3.

Hopefully they update the NBA app. Current version ALWAYS freezes after a few minutes of streaming. I know it's not an Internet issue since the app on the iPad and streaming on the laptop work flawlessly. So annoying...

So basically we got an upgrade to 1080p, and that's it.

I'm glad to get it, certainly, but it certainly isn't the Great Leap Forward that was hoped for.

It's not a question of "can" they - absolutely they could - it's a question of "will" they.

It really smells like the goal is to have the "console" be the iPad, and the aTV just provides the link to the big screen. We're still about one generation of iPad away from smoking current-gen console performance - call it a year from now.

Then all we need is physical controllers and a GameCenter that isn't a pile of crap.

And give Apple 30% right off the top.

And have credit card fees, returns, advertising, store maintenance, everything handled for 30% only.

I usually manage to find store gift cards at some considerable rebate; the last ones that I bought came with 20% rebate. So for every pound of "official" store price, I paid only 80 pence, the developer gets 70 pence, so Apple is definitely not getting 30% of the purchase price.
