MacRumors reader Mike Jobson sent us this screenshot from the UK App Store that appears to hint at a forthcoming update for Facebook for iPad that would presumably add support for the tablet's Retina display.

The Facebook app was last updated in December.

I hope they get a move on. Retina support will make viewing photos really nice on the new iPad.

They *should* be adding Timeline support to the iPad app in this update as well.

Where is the Tumblr app for the iPad?

For such an innovative company, it's stunning they don't get the power of native apps, and are trusting crappy 3rd party apps with their brand experience.

Probably someone on their Board or management team has some ideological issues and still doesn't get that native apps are going win, at least in the short term.

I don't want a better spyware app from Facebook.

Come on Tumblr. Get with this century.

Wirelessly posted

Maybe if they fixed the bugs while they were at it I'd get excited.

Yeah hope they re-wrote the bloomin' thing. It's terrible. You'd expect something better now from a company as big as Facebook.

Well it's about time as the current version is completely outdated, timeline doesn't work, live chat doesn't work as well, since timeline introcution...

I love my iPad 2, but Facebook on iPad has been one of the major disappointments; especially considering how damn long it took for them to roll out the app; and how many subpar experiences I had prior to the app's release, using both paid and free 3rd-party facebook apps.

In a typical week, or even a typical day, i probably have to...

A. use the Facebook app to do SIMPLE things iOS Safari can't do on Facebook.
B. use iOS Safari to do SIMPLE things i can't do on the Facebook app.
C. give the f#%+ up, and use Splashtop (amazing app btw) to run Safari on my iMac to view Facebook.

i mean... what the...?!!

It's ridiculous how the Facebook app, that is to 90% an app wrapping a web browser (you can compare the similarities at http://touch.facebook.com yourself), can still have so many bugs.

For example, if I browse photos on Facebook for iPad, I can only "like" or comment the first one. After that, I need to exit the photo viewer, and re-open it again. It's also unstable when viewing photos in the first place. Sometimes it just crashes. Also, no timeline, and missing tons of Facebook features on the website. Not sure you can even remove friends from the app, or subscribe to people, or arrange friend lists... It isn't even translated properly - the localized version I use is a mix of my native language and English.

In short, an utterly horrible app for having Facebook's resources. Companies with five iOS developers have done better than them.

Retina support is far from the greatest feature it's missing.

Before they start making upgrades like that, Facebook should solve the problem of the app often crashing when you open up photographs, and even worse when you try to comment on the damn things.Oh yes and you can only comment on one photograph in an album at once. You can't comment, then swipe to the next and comment on that. You have to come out of the album and back in again. Rubbish. Get it right, Facebook!

HAHAHAHA Weird! I was just saying that. But you said it better! :D

Tumblr HAS an iPhone app, I've been using it for almost ever, it does like to crash after 3-4 pages on my iPod, but that's a RAM issue.

~EDIT~
Email their support about this issue Support@tumblr.com

The iPad Facebook App still gives you access to people's walls that have upgraded to timeline, so much information still available that timeline hides. [creepysmiley]

apparently it has disappeared from the uk app store so dont expect to see a update :( ugh

FaceBook is the worst app ever designed for iOS. Take your pick, the iPad or iPhone versions, they are both completely rubbish. How about they get off their asses and make a decent app!

I hope that this App would be more unique and offer good service including the Timeline support.. Waiting excitedly to check it out!

seems strange that this is no longer listed on the UK app store on the ipad. Either apple accidently put this on there early by mistake and gonna release it a later date.. maybe tomorrow? or it disappeared because facebook/apple decided it was too buggy to release

As soon as the FB app forced the user to be signed into chat at all times I deleted it not only from my devices but also iTunes.
I don't know if they changed that yet, but I'll never use a FB app that requires me to be ready to chat just by using the damn thing.
