Apple Refurbs are fine. Apple replaces all external parts including the case; only the guts are reused (except for the battery--that is also new).

Do you have a source for this? I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I keep seeing people post this and I have never seen any evidence this is the case. I understand Apple would want to replace a case that was gouged or dinged, but it makes no sense to replace a perfectly fine case on a Mac that was potentially used half a day by somebody before they returned it.

Yeah the keyboards on the retina macbooks are super thin and shallow, it's not ideal for me but I guess I could live with it. Was hoping this new updated MBA wouldn't be as shallow as the rMB. I prefer a buttery keyboard like ThinkPads mmmm.

Yup, that was my knowledge, too. Apple would replace broken parts, but that's it. There is a very high chance of getting a Case with (minor) scratches. And, I don't know whether they replace the battery, too.

I know many people who are very happy with their refurbished devices (I myself have a refurbished iPad mini), but if it's not cheaper than a Macbook with Edu-discount, why wouldn't I wanna buy new?

I checked at Apple's site and all I could find was this: http://www.apple.com/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/refurbfaq_popup. On Mac laptops you'd at least get a new bottom case because that's where the serial number is etched.

They do explicitly state on their iPad refurb page that you get a new case and battery. In any case, I've never heard of any instances where refurbs have been distinguishable from new (scratches or battery cycles used.)

Well, my refurb iPad had a nick in one of the edges from the get go. But I didn't argue because they replaced my old iPad even after the warranty period, so I was happy to even get one for free.

Maybe this is why Apple hides battery cycles in iOS...

Same. I know it sounds whiney - but I honestly figured we'd have gotten updates at the beginning of the year. Every other vendor has Skylake out right now; and Apple's hardware in the 15" space isn't nearly as ahead of the competition as it once was.

Pretty unusual that the 13" Air is cheaper than the 11" Air with same specs (8GB RAM).

Really... and I mean REALLY... tempted to buy the 13" Air right now with the free wireless Beats promotion. I should be able to get $150 Canadian for them I'd think (they retail for $329 before tax here).

It's been awfully quiet re MBA/MBP rumors, lately... this suspense is killing everyone, I guess.

It's because the air will be dropped, the MacBook Pro will get a minor update to skylake and they will focus on iPad Pro and iPhone pro as 'notebook replacements'. :(

I still see Apple selling MacBook air.

If they where to do away with MacBook air they would not be making any now.
