Hey, guys. I have a good news!

I just got a call from my friend who is a police officer in my area. He said that the detective is working on my case and they already know who is the guy based on the information i gave to them on Friday. Also, they know where he lives.

So, they going to contact him in the future. But, my friend also said that it might be another person who stole my iphone and then sold it to this guy. Anyway, I hope my iphone will come back.

Thank you

Its good to see your hopefully going to get your iPhone back. If not this is a great excuse to get the new iPhone in June :p

Wait, so now you have a friend who is a police officer? You failed to mention this minor detail.

Anyways, I still don't think the police are going to do anything. 2 years ago, my wife had our digital camera ($500) plus her cellphone ($200) stolen out of a Dunkin Donuts. We called the police. The thief was recorded by a security camera taking her purse. DD employees said these kids hung out there all the time. So, did the police do anything about it? Did we get our stuff back? No and no. Apparently where I live, if you're not murdering or raping someone, you aren't committing a crime.

What I would have done is printed out all those screenshots, did a reverse phone number look-up to get the address, and then went right to his house and called the police on his front porch. They would have had to respond immediately to this type of call. Things would have been resolved there and then.

Best you can do is give us both your phone number and his parent's number. Type them right out on this forum so we can start harassing them. I would love to send this guy some offensive Emoji.

If you have the serial number to your phone on the box, take them to small claims court.

They will then have to prove they purchased it from or someone else legally.

HOWEVER, you will have a police report stating it is stolen.

Not only will they be in possession of stolen goods on public record but you can get a judgment against them for the return of the phone or $ to buy a new one since they would be guilty of receiving stolen property if prosecuted.

With public resource wasted on minor cases like this one, no wonder CA is going bankrupted.
I'm sure you'd be saying the same thing if it was your phone...

Looks like it'll be a happy turnout OP. Usually these things don't end well, but MobileMe saved the day. That, and the "Locate phone" feature in 3.0 make MM pretty nice. Still not sure if I'd drop a C note though. :p

Thank you for your advice. But typing their phone number here will probably turn the case against me. They will press the charge on me by publishing their informations.

this happened to my sister on halloween. she left her phone out after we carved pumpkins and a group of kids we didnt know came by and stole the candy and phone. i went out looking for them for 1/2 and hour around the neighborhood asking what way they went to people. i finally found them outside their house, the mother screaming at them in spanish. i asked nicely if they found a phone and the mom swore at him in espanol (hola!), he threw the phone at me, i left. lol.

your story actually involves the police. lucky you (jk).

i would be a total brat and call the cops back everyday- not 911, the local #. they would send someone out just to shut me up.

and FLIP THE THIEF OFF FOR THE MR COMMUNITY!:D

People put waaaaay too much stock in CCTV, when in fact it's of very little use in identifying anyone. Sure it's great evidence of what someone's done if you've caught them, but having footage of someone stealing your stuff doesn't give the police their name and address. There would only be two possible ways that the police would catch the people in your case. By recognising the person on the footage if they'd dealt with them before, or if the DD staff called police next time try came in. Do you think the DD staff did that? I think they probably forgot all about you as soon as you walked out of the door.

Thx, I hope the new iPhone will have some features on preventing it from being stolen.

This app cannot run in the background, so in order to be activated the "finder" must manually activate the app (which masquerades as a game to entice). Only then can you log in to the web portal to circumnavigate its location.

However, with a passcode, the "finder" cannot access the app as background processes are not activated. Yet.

I believe this will be overcome with 3.0, what with push notifications. However, it has been reported that in 3.0, there is a utility in ME that allows for "Find my iPhone".

With this post, it has become kind of evident to me this may be nothing but
some entertainment for someone. The above post is proof enough for me
anyway.

A fun read though.
