Okay so i have wanted a Colorware PC Macbook Pro for years. Every now and then for as long as i can remember i would go to their website and configure a shiny Black Macbook Pro. I just never ordered it b/c while it looks Amazing on the site, Its EXPENSIVE and i felt happy with my 1st gen intel macbook pro.

However after i graduated college I realized i need a new laptop and finally decided if i dont get one now, i dont think i will ever be in a place where i can splurge on something like this again.

I placed the order on May 10th and finally got it on June 9th. I was told it was a week late because paint jobs on items like the Macbook Pro could take more time than expected. Not sure if i was pleased with that answer, but all i want is good work.

When it arrived, it came the exact same Apple box that it was probably purchased in. Unfortunately when i opened up the box i noticed the panel behind the lcd screen. The top of the laptop where the apple logo is, was full of minute scratches. I mean scratches all over. But the odd thing was when i put my hand over the lid, it was really really smooth.

It looks as they put a polish over the lid on top of the scratches.

Since there is so much shine, you only notice the lid is full of scratches in direct daylight, otherwise you have to be close to the laptop to notice the horrible paintjob done by colorwarepc.

A couple of thoughts ran through my mind, should i just live with this because i cant wait another four weeks and don't have more money for them to fix the problem even if they can. The other thought was is this common for Colorware PC ? Do people who ask for a paintjob get scratched up laptops ? They shouldnt!

So after fully experiencing buyers remorse and kicking myself for ordering from Colorware, i contacted them and they very nicely said they would take care of the issue.

So i guess another week or two i will get the laptop again and fill you in on my experience with Colorware PC with updated pictures on the fix. But from what i am experiencing and feeling right now i would suggest for the money the quality is NOT WORTH it.

UPDATED:

Okay guys so i got back my laptop and i must say they fixed the issues with their prior paintjob. I was told the initial problem occurred due to a bad bag it was originally shipped in.

I am pretty pleased with the final product, i took photos and a video which i uploaded on youtube. I know how hard it is to find live shots of their products.

Here is the link to the youtube video:

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. They did an atrocious job. I'm glad you are not just excepting it. The extent of scratching is just terrible. The Apple logo even looks bad.
Keep us updated on how the new one looks. Good luck.

Great post with pics! I’ve always wanted to have this done. I loved the dark metallic purple they offered for the MBP. I was thinking of getting it on a new Xbox 360. Never mind now!

that does sound like a nice xbox mod, but yea it might not turn out exactly as you expected

Yikes...for the price they charge, I would expect perfection (or very near). Sad indeed. :(

It's not the first time a user on here is complained about the quality regarding Colorware. I just wonder how easily it comes off, but that's another story.

Just wanted to keep everybody filled in. I must say while im dissapointed with my initial experience of opening up my laptop and encountering the images above, these guys are seriously nice people.

So they are telling me it was shipped in a "bad bag" and they have cleaned it up and are sending it back in something called a "diaper bag"...

As soon as i get it, ill take more pics.

i always wondered why no matter how hard i googled i could never find images of colorware'd machines...they cant even put real pics on their own site

I have been an auto shop owner for years and we have a body shop as well. BLACK SUCKS! I own a show car that is black and it always looks as if it has fine scratches in direct sunlight. It is kid of the nature of the beast. I would suggest getting a different color, it will def not show the scratches like black does.

That's why apple only offered a matte black macbook (even though it was a crap coating)

will do, ill give a thorough review of the other aspects of the paintjob with pics in a couple of days.

@nospeed411
heh, your not the first person to mention that to me, but something about a glossy black thats just hard to resist.

However i made the portion where the keyboard is a matte black.

I have included the new photos and youtube link in my first posting above

Looks great but the trackpad now sticks out quite a bit from the rest of the black. Do they normally not paint the trackpad? Or did you choose that?

Why on earth would you pay someone money to paint your laptop?? I can't even begin to fathom why anyone would do that. Is it just the all-consuming need to be "different" or do you really think that a black MBP looks so much better than a silver one?

look alright, you really should have painted the track pad. i would have went with a different color match up, but not bad. as long you like it.

Glad to hear they fixed the problem...I'm with everyone else on the trackpad thing, but it's not my computer! If they did paint the pad, I'd be worried about the paint coming off...although I guess you pay them the big bucks so it doesn't.
