Do you mean I'll be able to play my terribly graphically intensive apps like ... Infinity Blade 2, Final Fantasy Tactics, Clash of Clans, and so forth? :O

I was being sarcastic there.

Performance wise, though, just for the record ... what is the difference?

Playing infinity blade? Get the air. So much better picture on IB III.

Get it on thanksgiving from Target. 100$ off $479 = $379. for the 16gb version.

I recommend the air. These devices outdate very quickly.

However, if you are cash strapped, keep the 2. I am typing this from my iPad 2.

Sadly, I think I'm going to have to go with this advice. But I have to replace my charger cord because it has some ... issues.

The only bummer with my 2 is battery life, but it isnt worth 600 bucks to me. I expect the next iPad to be A8 with 2gb of RAM. That should sufficiently date the 2 but for now i would just keep it. The 3 and 4 were both 2012 models so the 2 seems older than it is.

You can get Apple certified cables from Amazon relatively inexpensively. I wouldn't bother with fleabay fakes. You're more likely to end up spending more than what a genuine Apple 30-pin cable would cost trying to get a fake that works.

I'm going to order the AmazonBasics cable. Apparently, it's the one that the most people are buying from Amazon. I just have to wait for about 24 hours or so because I'm getting 15$ worth of Bing Reward gift cards for Amazon. That means ... it's free. Completely free.

That's my old one.

Good choice. Just got a couple of those myself.

I have 750$ extra money to last until I find a new job.

This should be obvious, but why are you even considering a new iPad while you are unemployed?

You're out of work, with a limited amount of money, and you have no idea when you will be working again. Be an adult and wait until you're employed and then treat yourself with a new iPad.

This is how people find themselves buried under a mountain of debt.

But I don't wanna be an adult. I don't wanna, I don't wanna, I don't wanna!

*whine, cry, pouts, throws a hissy*

I'm just speaking on behalf of myself here, but I feel like you'd be much more happy in say two years from now if you went on and got the Air.

True! But remember that OP is considering dumping his 2 year old iPad to begin with. The probability of him being satisfied with any iPad in another 2 years is minimal :D.

Hey, hey.

I'm technically still happy with my iPad 2, but I keep reading how the retina screen is "so amazing". I kind of feel like I'm missing out on something. My iPad does everything I need it to. >_>

As someone who recently upgraded from an iPad 2, I'm glad I went with an iPad Air rather than an iPad 4. Reason 1: if you look at the Geekbench benchmark scores, the Air's single-core score is 90% better than the 4's and the Air's multi-core score is 80% better than the 4's. Reason 2: the Air's wifi reception is soooo much better than my iPad 2's so that I get really good reception throughout my house. (Admittedly, I didn't check out the iPad 4's reception at my house, but supposedly the Air's wifi is much improved.) Reason 3: it is lighter, thinner, and more narrow while still being a sturdy appliance. Reason 4: Apple's iPad Air SmartCase is well-designed and (for me) a necessary add-on for the unit.

If you can't swing the iPad Air right now, I'd recommend holding off and continuing to enjoy your iPad 2. Granted, it doesn't have the retina display - but it still is a very decent and capable unit. Plus - you might be able to swing a decent deal on the iPad Air on Black Friday!

I would hardly call the iPad Air a "sturdy" appliance. With all other issues that the iPad Air has aside the thing is nowhere near as sturdy as any of its predecessors. Check any of the drop and durability tests. Apple made some sacrifices when they went thinner. I can distort the LCD and front glass with my index finger and I can twist the chassis (tried not to break the display model).

The Air is a step in the right direction but it's only advantages over a 4th gen are being lighter and having a faster processor. But if you look at the trend in iPads the next version will be twice as fast as the current with a better camera, touch ID and most likely a better battery. Oh and let's not forget the whole RAM issue with it being 64 bit:rolleyes:

I believe the battery replacement program for the iPad cost $99. They don't remove you're old battery, they just recycle you're device and give you a refurbished unit. Plus you'll probably get the newer A5 which is awesome when it comes to battery life.

I'm guessing this only happens in the Apple store specifically?

I went from a 2 to an Air and had considered a 4 instead of the Air, but after playing with both, the Air won hands down. Faster, lighter , thinner, better speakers. It was just an all around better device IMO and for my needs.
