I had one playlist that came up blank on my iPod Touch 2G after upgrading to IOS4. The fix.. I unchecked that playlist and synced my Touch so those songs were removed from my touch. Then I deleted the playlist. Then I recreated the playlist and checked it and resynced. The playlist now had it's songs back on my iPod Touch.

I love the new layout for playlists btw. This is how I organized it in iTunes and this is how I wanted it to look on my Touch... ios4 finally made it happen. Bluetooth still works with my bluetooth headphones... so far so good... I'm happy.

So "On the Go" is gone?

See my fix in note 25 in this string.

Im not sure whether to correct you or not cause im not sure if your trying to be funny or not.

Just in case, its not called a string, its called a thread. :)

I get string and thread mixed up all the time. Maybe it is because I've been playing this game for 33 years and discussion forums have been called by many names over many years.

The important thing is to help when one can help. The person I quoted had exactly the same problem I had... and I offered a solution that worked for me.

Sorry, im kind of a grammar freak, even thought that doesnt apply in this case, but i think you know what i mean.

I know, it just bothered me, and i try.

Don't get me started.
Battery life is HORRIBLE!! Takes me forever to fully charger iPod, but less than half of the time to run it down.
Web keyboard lag. Ugh! Sometimes it misses letters and sometimes it doesn't.
App close downs. My apps close Down after a few minutes if they aren't 4.0. Well sometimes. But it's very annoying.

Here: The answer is to restore but DO NOT RESTORE FROM BACKUP. Restore and then sync. It fixes the battery problem, but you have to go through and reestablish all your app prefs.

MY BAD: No problem syncing contacts- The notes don't display as completely on opening the contact as I was used to before OS4.0 but everything is there that should be.

Now I find that when I sync my contacts, lots of stuff is left out even though it's on my Mac and I choose to have it override the itouch.

Thank you Mac2x. Unfortunately, I did not set up Time Machine. I didn't understand what it was or how to do it, but I will find out now.
I appreciate your time in answering and I will use the info in the future if I lose my playlists again.
No problem!! Sorry I've been gone so long! :D

[edit] I just realized that the iPod software update folder is NOT being backed up by time machine!! WTF?

Yesterday, 2 week after I did the 4.0 update and lost my playlists with error 34, it happened again. But reading posts on this thread, helped me to decide to get a portable 500g external hard drive. I've been using Time Machine for a week, so i thought I would easily be able to restore my playlists. I couldn't find the library update file however, and don't know where else to look for my playlists on Time Machine. Also, once I do find the files, how do I update my ipod w them? Thank you.

won't sync large files

I have been trying to sync the upgrade on my iTouch to the 4.0. About 60% of the way through, iTunes crashes. This has happened so often, I started keeping a tally sheet - so it's no exageration that it has happened more than 30 times! Also, when I try to sync larger files such as a full length movie, the same thing happens, about 60% of the way through, iTunes crashes.

I have emailed Apple several times about this problem and received no response. Apple's attitude of "our way or the highway" prevents others from solving the problems so we have to wait for Apple since I'm not the only one with iTunes problems. But, until then, no one in my house will be purchasing any Apple products either for our home or schools.
