I think AT&T's wording is what is causing all of the confusion. That and a bunch of people not really knowing what they are talking about answering. (this is in reference to other threads on this site and others, not this current thread, which seems to be very informative)

Here's my situation. When I go online to check my eligibility, it says
"As a valued AT&T customer, this line qualifies for discounted equipment pricing when you sign a new 2-year commitment.
iPhone Upgrade
As a valued AT&T customer, we can offer you a discounted iPhone upgrade with a new 2-year commitment and an $18 upgrade fee."

When I do the text thing, it says "As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee."

If I go online and try to upgrade my current line, it says I can get the iPhone 3GS 16gb for $149, and the 32gb for $199. From what I can tell, these are the full discount prices, correct?

Now, I have a single line through AT&T. I bought the 3GS on launch day last year, pre-ordered the first day it was available to do so. I am on the $49.99 a month plan with the $30 data plan. My bill is like $80 a month. Before the keynote, it said online that I was eligible for upgrade in November, although from what I can tell, that shouldn't be the case.

I don't want to get my hopes up until I actually have the phone ordered and paid for, but it sure SEEMS like I will be eligible for the full discount...

Wish you could preorder them today, and then I wouldn't have to think about it all day :)

No point in arguing with the wife about it if I won't be eligible, right? haha

If there is specific misinformation we need to fix, please let us know. We're trying to make the upgrade guide the one-stop place for all these questions. Any pointers or suggestions are appreciated (direct them to Elephunkman as he has edit priviledges).

Yes, that is the message for full upgrades.

This is a hard one and one I would wait out to see for sure. Based on what you're saying I would agree that it shouldn't be ready for upgrade until December or January (18 months). But if it is December, that pushes you into AT&Ts early upgrade period for the iPhone 4.
