I currently own a 3rd generation iPad and both the iPad Air and the Mini (since they have the exact same specs) are interesting to me. I just don't know if I'd like a bigger display or better portability. So go for the Air or the Mini? Or should I wait for the next iPads with Touch ID? What would you recommend to me?

I have ipad 3 and iphone 5.

I'm planning on getting the ipad air cause its way lighter than the ipad 3 (heck even lighter than the ipad 2). And I use it a lot for reading e-books, so I want something easier to hold.

I'm sure I'll be disappointed when the ipad 6 comes out with something better though.

For portability I have the iphone 5. I generally use the ipad at home (except I bring it with me when when travelling on vacations -- but mainly for the airplane ride and reading in hotel room). Other than long car trips or airplane rides, I rarely take the ipad out of my house.

I can't see downsizing to the mini from an ipad. If I had no iphone or ipad, I might consider the mini.

RE: Fitting in a jacket pocket -- I noticed that the mini is the exact width of a standard DVD or Xbox 360 game case, and is 1 cm taller and about half as thick. Not a bad way to get a feel for where it'd fit!

Hmm, a DVD case doesn't fit in my pocket, but a thinner Blu-ray case does?

Personally if I used my iPad 3 a lot I would definitely upgrade now, the much much lower weight and more portable size are huge factors for me. Hate the weight of the 3rd gen!

However I don't use mine a lot so I'm just going to wait until next year when we hopefully get touch id and even faster iPads, maybe wireless ac and hopefully 32gb base models.

Does anyone know how I can add a poll to this thread?

But there's been so many mini vs. full-size iPad threads over the past year, I, for one, am tired of typing the same answers over and over. Your question is just a variant of that. I suggest you go read some of the existing threads -- many of them cover differences between the two sizes on factors other than screen resolution, such as whether it's easier to type on the full size vs mini keyboard.
