There is room (and mounts) to place a fan both below and above the heat sink in a Cube. The lower one is easier and is typically referred to as a "base" fan. Then some upgraded video cards have their own fans too.

Any instructons on how to do it though? It would be interesting to know the best fan/fans model that can be slotted on the cube

There are probably hundreds of fan options just using the existing mount points, and even more if you want to customize something. That link I put up before shows 1. In general, a thicker/bigger fan can move more air with less noise. I also like to use a temperature controller on the fan, so that it can run even slower when the CPU load is low.

I saw this on reddit:

I wonder if this guy is on here too?

For instructions, you open the Cube, install the fan, and close it. It's just a fan. If you need more detail, then there are probably hundreds of sources for that too.

You need to take the motherboard out in order to install an 8x2.5 cm fan. Look for a quit model, preferably with 3 wires, so you can control the speed based on temperature. It makes a nice project. For a temperature fan speed control device look at:

I would suggest using a 4-wire fan with a 4-wire fan controller, or a different controller for a 3-wire fan...

As for the temperatures, Bresnik’s hardware monitor will not help you much as the G4s do not have any temperature sensor. The only solution ever to get temp-readouts of G4 CPUs has been Powerlogix’s CPU Director, only working for freescale upgrades and only up to 10.4.9.
XLR8 Mach Speed Control gives me pretty good values on 10.4.12 with the stock 450mhz Cube Processor (in steps of 4 Degrees Celsius), and Bresniks hardware monitor says it will give you temperatures on MDD G4's. Haven't tried the MDD yet because I have to modify my VRM first to make the 1,25Ghz Dual not blowing up my Cube's weak VRM.
