Ok, I got the 2gb of Sdram 133 for $19.00 on ebay (not bad). Now I have to wait till the ship it :(

Now....I tested her through the whole week using the 400mhz cpu and the 733 mb of ram. Youtube is painful to watch.

Has anyone had a problem like this? And if so, what did u do to correct it?

My other question is iLife. which one I can use on the G4?

Thx again.

My 733 MHz G4 works fine on YouTube. What OS do you have? Tiger, right?

Check the specs for iLife '08 and '06; I'm too lazy.

My GE dual 500mhz with 2gb use to handle anything I threw at it a few years ago. That 400mhz CPU is what's killing performance. Good luck with the memory working in your G4. They can me picky.

They work so they must be.

The G4 will not boot with ECC ram, so be careful what you buy and ask the seller if they don't list that information.

My GE G4 booted and ran fine with ECC memory, it came out of an old Dell Server I had.

Dumb question (I have no idea if the MAC architecture can permit it) Can I swap the single cpu card for a dual on the mystic???? If not, sorry for the dumb question.
Im interested since I've seen on ebay dual cpu's @ 1gb very cheap like around $50.

Thx.

You can put a DP in a sawtooth, but it has to have a 100mhz front side bus. There is a hack you can do to overclock the FSB to 133 which makes a world of difference.

Google for it, or search the forums for my thread on g4 overclocking.

Buy a dual 500/533mhz CPU from a Gigabit Ethernet G4 and transplant it into your Sawtooth.

Then you can overclock it a bit more. http://power-mac-g4.com/g4clockup.html so you can squeeze every little bit of life out of it. Since OWC and other processors are still too expensive for such an old machine, you can find older dual OEM processors for <$25. Just shop around and throw out some lowball offers ;)

Guys thanks for all the help, I really thank each and everyone of u for all the responses and help. I'll let u guys know how it goes with the CPU. I'll shop around. And if anyone of u guys have one laying around, let me know.:D

That is incorrect. Many Sawtooth models do not support dual CPUs due to a bad revision of the Uni-North ASIC.
Download UniNorthASICChecker to determine if your machine actually supports duals or if you're stuck with 1 cpu.

Ehm, sorry to interrupt, If it's me that u guys are referring to, I dont have a sawtooth, but a Gigabit Ethernet. I hope that clears up the discussion.;)

I think I made a mistake on ebay.

I ordered a single core cpu (867 mhz). And I just check the quicksilver and I think she's running a dual 800 mhz....

Is this gonna be an problem?.

Im so stumped with mac hardware...sorry for being a royal pain in the arse!

Thx Guys

Sounds like one. Quicksilver CPUs will not work in the GigE G4.

Hi zmttoxics

Im sorry I didn't specify, I have three macs now. 2 Quicksilvers and 1 GE

Let me explain my "blunder"

I wanted both QS to be 867. The 800mhz one seems to be a dual CPU. And I ordered by mistake a Single Core 867 mhz cpu.

U see, there is my issue.

Thx

Ah. Well, 867 is the min required for Leopard, but I would bet the DP 800 would out perform it. What cpu is in the other QS? Another 867mhz? You should benchmark them (geekbench would be best for just CPU calculations) and if the 867 is faster, go ahead with the swap.

Well, the thing is...they have to be 867 both, regardless.

Will the single core 867 work on the QS that has the 800mhz dual?

thx

BTW both units are in now working conditions.

They need to be torn down, cleaned and rebuilt.

Im still fuzzy with all the ram thing...

On QUICKSILVER's

Will this RAM work:

2X512MB

Applicable type
168PIN SDRAM DIMM Desktop PC

Memory Speed
PC133 /133MHZ

Density
High density memory

Operating Voltage
3.3V

CAS Latency
3.0

Buffers
Unbuffered

Organization
Non-ECC,Non-Parity

Im worried about the density. I've heard that High density wont work on Mac's. Is that true?

Thx guys.
