I have an iPhone 12 and planned on upgrading to the 14 when released. But from what I have read the major changes will probably be the iPhone 15.
I can still get a decent trade in for my 12 through Apple so thinking of doing that and getting the 13 and then ignoring the 14 and wait for the 15.
Good idea or bad because my initial impression was going from the 12 to the 13 wasn’t much of an upgrade. Thanks for any opinions.

In your situation I would just wait for the 15.

I think if you’re 12 is working well keep that. The differences will be in the pro models not the regular line.

As someone who can make an iPhone last for years, I’d say wait. If feels so nice to jump 3-4 years ahead. My husband went from a 5s to an XR. I went from a 7 to an XR and then right to 11P. It was awesome 😂

The jump from 11P to 13P, well, nothing to write home about.

Our poor child is still using my 3rd gen iPad that’s at least 10 years old. He will really, really enjoy his new iPad if/when this one finally dies. We just can’t kill it.

After a week or so of newness, it just turns back into a device we use for stuff. Different perspective, of course, just food for thought.

That why I decided to get out of Apple’s upgrade program and skipped the 13 (which my wife got coming from an 11).
But I always like having the newest model 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

you should go for the iphone 13 IF 2 reasons
1) the rumors come true and the 14 is less than an upgrade than even the SE was.
2) if you dont want the 14 max ( the bigger display)

So going for 13 or 14 is the same thing but for difference price , almost 90% identical so why spend the extra bucks? maybe if they bring some colour that you like

Using an iPhone 13, and I will be honest, if the 14 goes notchless, I will be purchasing. I will probably stick with it for a while though.
My iPhone 13 is my first iPhone with the notch. At first I got irritated at it, but after a while I got used to it and it doesn’t bug me any more. So I’m gonna keep the 13 for four or five years, like I did with my last Eye Phone (an 8 +)

I'm also deciding what to do - have a cracked screen and a weak battery on my 8-plus. Do I just go with the repairs, or upgrade to the 13 knowing the 14 is just around the corner.

I'm torn!

I would waitnst this point.

With that said, I recently upgraded from to 12 Pro Max to the 13 Max and I'm done upgrading until apple releases a USB C port.
