This makes me lean towards the X! However, the sale on the SE ends before the X goes up for preorder so I'll have to decide without knowing if I want the SE sale price.
You have to decide WHAT is most important to you NOW?!

I had the same dilemma with watches recently.
I so wanted to like the AW3, it’s 

But I ended up buying a Polar M430 because of the battery-time.
Around a week battery, or lot more or some less, depending on usage.
It was the main factor for me after the fitness stuff, I realized.
Probably half the price of AW, but that was not a question actually.

I am really pleased with my Polar & their software in general.
I don’t give a crap about LTE & a lot of the other stuff AW offer right now.
But I still I watch closely the discussions about AW3.
Next time it might be an AW4 but for now PolarM430 do what I need.

The best value is their entry-level models
No doubt. The SE is the best value iPhone they've ever offered. I call it 90% of the experience of the X at 30% of the cost.

Me, I'd go for the SE. But sometimes you just want the best overall, not the best value, and that's fine too.

I primarily agree with you, but in order to say the iPhone SE is the 'best they've ever offered', one would truly have to appreciate a 4 inch display with the lack of the latest specifications and capabilities. Otherwise, for the price point and the fact that Apple is offering a four-inch display with most smart for manufactures Moving away from this size, it is a nice option to have.

I've had my 5s for just over 3 years and the only thing that is a pain is I have the 16 GB version and it's been full for like a year. I need an upgrade this year due to being out of storage, and as weird as it sounds I'm deciding between the SE or the X.

Typically I'm not someone who always has to have the newest and best thing because I know as soon as I get something it will be "outdated" within months anyway. But this year, I've been sucked into all this iPhone X hype!

Basically, I'm down to these two scenarios:

1. Upgrade to the SE and hang onto it for a few years. It's on sale right now through my carrier. The 32 GB version is $180 and the 128 somewhere between $200-300. My thinking is if I upgrade to this I can wait a few years for Apple to work out any issues with the X generation phones, and give them more time to perfect it. Or maybe offer it at a cheaper price as those rumors have been going around. My intent would be after I've used the SE for 2-3 years to upgrade to whatever Apple's top line model is that year.

2. Buy the X because I want it like a kid in a toy store. I've been following the news for like the last year! Due to the price, and as someone who doesn't upgrade frequently, I'd hang onto it for as long as possible (for me, that's until Apple no longer supports it). I'm pumped about all the new features but at the same time get freaked about carrying around a $1000 phone (dropping it, stolen, etc.)

Thoughts/advice? Anyone else really want the X but at the same time having difficulty with thoughts of dropping 1k for a phone? My mind changes daily on this and the SE promotion ends right before the X goes up for preorder.

My head says SE, but my D says X.

I skipped the first gen, 3g and 3gs iPhones, as I didn't like the curvy bubbly look. My first iphone was a 4, new industrial design, straight lines, lovely form factor. Next I bought the 5s which I'm still using now- again new design, new form factor which I really like. Like you I didn't feel the need to upgrade every year, I was so underwhelmed with the curvy pebble like design of the 6 and 7, I skipped that entire generation, but now with a return to glass with the 8, I feel like I could buy an 8+ but for some reason it just doesn't have that wow factor that I've been longing to have...Now with the X, again a new design and new form factor, a touch curvy but I really like it. Its going to be a huge upgrade coming from a 5s.

I think you should go with the X over the SE. The Iphone 5s and the SE is pretty much the same thing, you'll get pretty much the same experience from it, it will look the same, feel the same, do all the same things, try something NEW go for the X.

I have just been dying to have a new and different experience on an iphone, and I think the X will satisfy that urge for me. An OLED screen, No home button, entirely gesture/touch driven, and if Face ID works as it should, and I believe it will, the entire experience of using the phone will be seamless, the phone will lock and unlock by itself, I think its just going to be a great new experience and I'm looking forward to buying the X next week.

SE is rational / mind based consideration. X is what you want, not what you need. If I were you, I would rather go with 8 rather than X. Gap between SE vs X is too deep IMHO.

If you're even considering an SE compared to the X....
Just get yourself the SE. Cause its sooooo far from what the X is.

Negating the possibility that you may have to wait for the X depending on how soon you order, it is up to what you are willing to spend. I saw you mention something about a deal that ends before the X comes out. Albeit more work, would you not be able to just buy the SE before the deal ends, and if you are able to preorder the X with a viable shipping date, just return the SE, go back to your previous phone, and proceed forward with your X shipping date?
