For your intended usage and budget described do not purchase a macbook.

You will be sorry in the long run.

Overall build quality, and longevity of the machine is superior to the macbook.

If you're on a budget and looking for similar performance jump for the macbook.

For web design you're going to want the MBP with a Matte screen. I do some work on the side and even with 4 spaces, I still feel like I'm running out of screen real estate when I have all my apps open for web design.

Go for the stock MBP.
Wait till this Tuesday (just in case)... ;)
Dont go for the glossy if you're using CS3 since you will have a hard time with the color profiling.
Wait a few weeks/months, then go buy some cheap memory from OWC.

If one can afford Macbook pro then one shdnt thinking much abt Macbook!! even if u r running low on budget!! 4GB is not essential!! may be u can upgrade in future when funds start flowing :D:D wait for new Macbook Pro if its coming soon and buy it!!

Thanks everyone, you have all convinced me to go Pro. A lot of people were mentioning build quality which I know seems excellent. But previously I had read somewhere that since the Macbook Pro's are built out of aluminum the casing starts to warp. Is this true?

Probably a monday/friday machine. Thats just unlucky. The only scarey part of that story is the apple store staff member who wanted to have a "square go" out in the parking lot...

I've had my G4 imac for +4 years and it's never crashed once, its rock solid, its been turned on for like 3 years solid - nothing is warping in the LCD.

Ok thanks. In the store the Macbook Pro seemed to strong to warp like that and I thought that, that the video must have been a fluke with that guys Macbook Pro.
