The 5S isn't enough of an upgrade from a 5 for it to be worth upgrading, especially since I require a 64GB phone, so I have an extra $200 "storage tax" whenever I replace my phone.

Hopefully when the 6 comes out, it will be an awesome product and the iOS 7 redesign will be mature in iOS8 so that upgrading is a no-brainer.

Though I must admit, it has been tempting to drop eight Benjamins for a new unlocked 5S. But then the sane part of my brain goes "ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING MEEE???!" and I don't. :)

I wouldn't say that. I think a lot of people moved on to the 5S from the 5, but I think many of us (including myself) have not.

I opt to only pay the subsidy and upgrade every other year. There's lots of tricks to help you get a phone every year like have an extra line on the account so you can buy a subsidized phone every year or just buy the new one full price and then sell your old one.

From what I see though the price of the older model drops when the new model is released - its best to sell it before the new one is available.

The edge program doesn't seem to make sense, you pay full price and you have to trade in the old phone. I think you still do better selling it yourself.

For whatever reason, I have partial subsidy every year through AT&T, which amounts to being $200 off of full price. I just save up a little over the year, and have had good luck selling my phone on Craigslist yearly so far.

I am on Verizon and I had a MiFi on a line that was up on contract so I just removed that line and added a line to get the 5s and then just put it on my line and the MiFi on the new line so I am just paying the same amount as I was previously.

Of course you could do this if you have a tablet with LTE as well.

I don't see myself wanting the 6 as the screen size of the 5 and 5s is as big as I am wanting to go.
