So I went on a week's holiday and came back on Wednesday. After how my phone barely keeps charge and was incredibly annoying, I was pretty apprehensive about going away for a week (particularly as I flew solo and kinda wanted some way of communicating with people back home). I already had 3 power banks at work that I'd continually charge at work so that I wouldn't get stuck with a sudden complete loss of charge.
Weirdly, the night I got back home - it died and I plugged it in, fell asleep for 3 hours, woke up and it was STILL charging so I was like huh British luck... but it charged and turned on after about 15 minutes of charging from a power bank. So I was like okay, not the end of the world. Unfortunately I had a busy Thursday and Friday this week and despite telling myself I'd go home (I have a long commute) and copy across all my data, I just didn't get round to it and was going to do it yesterday - when I woke up and it had bit the dust!
My point I guess here is to warn you that if this happens to you, get your data off ASAP. Don't make the same mistake I did
Wireless charging is a biggie to me too, the port gets riddled with dust after years (not sure if IP67 makes a difference to the charging port retaining dust?) and cables never last. I'm going to go with the 8+, just need to decide on storage, I wish 128GB was an option.
I'd considered a second-hand one but I'd much rather have a brand new or refurbished one, I'd much rather have it opened from fresh at this point in time. A case is really a no-go for me - I love the feel of it without a case and it took 2.5 years of use with my iPhone 6+ to damage the screen or back of the phone and I'd hardly say I'm the most careful person, I dropped it many many times over those first 2.5 years. I'm kinda worried that with a glass back though that it's going to be a lot less durable to drop
One thing to keep in mind is the 8 Plus has a smaller battery than the 6 Plus.
I wouldn't buy the 7+ at full price because apple is taking the piss with the price for a 1 year old phone that is superseded by a slightly more expensive 8+ with much better specs. You should be able to get a second hand 7+ in top condition for about £420-520 depending on storage capacity instead of going brand new for £670 - £770 (32gb or 128gb).
You have then saved a few hundred pounds and you can see what apple do next year pricing and lineup wise. If nothing interests you then the 7+ will still be a brilliant phone with pretty much all of the best features of the 8+.
Where can you get a 7+ for such a low price?
Hopefully that's the case but last time apple made the battery smaller (6S) the battery was worse. But the same battery life so thats not important in his considerations.
Big upgrade for you, that 3GB of ram will be a god send.I have a 64GB 6 Plus and am going for a 64GB 8 Plus.
Initially I was looking at a 7 Plus for £669 but 32GB isn't enough storage as I use about 40/45 on average which requires me to go 128GB for £769. But for an extra £30 I can get an 8 Plus with 64GB and have the latest version of iPhone.
That was my reasoning for getting the 8 Plus. If the 7 Plus had been 64GB for £669 I'd have got that one.
I am looking forward to the dual camera, faster processor and wireless charging on the 8 Plus. It will also be nice to have a phone that doesn't have a smashed screen, broken battery and an intermittent USB port!
I’m going to suggest you go all out. If photos are your main concern, the new iPhones do support HEIF so if primarily take photos, you can store twice as much on a 64gb iPhone 8+ than a similar storaged iPhone 6 which can allay your apprehension about going with 64gb. This will make 8+ just 50 dollars more than a 128gb 7+ (though 7+ is also capable of HEIF).
I’m just saying, you can still manage your photos through the cloud on worst case scenarios. Get the newer model and enjoy your 3-year cycle.
To be honest, that definitely allays my concern. Apples upselling attempts with the removal of the 128GB storage option I find in pretty poor taste - whilst I really want more than 64GB, I'm reluctant to handover another £150 for the privilege of it, out of principle - I just don't see how they can reasonably justify removing the middle ground. I've always had the highest capacity option, but this move on their behalf I find really cheeky.
Is there something similar applying for videos?
To be honest, I still have my 128GB iPad mini, so I can use that as secondary storage if need be
It also applies to videos. Same quality, half the size.
But is it average 50% reduction or up to 50% reduction?
That is a baseless accusation. You do not know the OP nor do you know his financial situation. For all you know, he is rich because he doesn't blow money. The OP seems cheap. They should get a used SE.
Question for you?If you can swing the extra 200 the iphone 8+ is a substantial upgrade over the 7+. I think you will be blown away by the 8+. I am looking to go from a 6s to an 8+ 256 gb.
