With the new iPhones coming hopefully this year, will you be going for the folding option or sticking with the standard style iPhone?

There are a few things that effect choice such as price, camera features, etc. and although I really want the folding phone, I will find it hard to miss out on the 18 Pro Max's probable superior cameras.

I upgrade every year with the camera improvements my main reason and it's a real dilemma for me.

Then there is the rumoured lack of FaceID on the fold. I had an iPad mini 7 and didn't enjoy having to use TouchID to unlock. Possibly didn't' use it often enough to get that muscle memory. The Fold/Ultra will be used much, much more so hope to get used it in time.

Of course if they just put cameras to match the Pro Max and FaceID on the fold I would be happy!

As it is I'll most likely go with the fold, just hope the camera compromise isn't too bad. I just love the leaked size and shape of the Fold/Ultra and feel it will be a great device to have on me at all times.
Maybe it'll just be a novelty that will wear off and end up going back to a Pro Max, but I'm excited to try it.

Everyone will have there own preferences and compromises they are willing to take so am interested on which you will choose and why.

Personally, absolutely no interest in the Fold/Ultra.

I really hope they don’t go with the moniker Ultra because it most certainly isn’t if it’s true that it only comes with Touch ID and two cameras, which all rumours now suggest. It’s a folding phone, end of.

I use telephoto a fair bit - but not enough to "upgrade every year." Right now I'm using a 15PM; not all that fond of the size but the 5x zoom vs 3x on the 15 Pro was the deciding factor. I also sometimes carry my iPad mini with me; e.g. if I'm going to have some down-time to read a book.

As long as the Fold has telephoto "of some sort" (hopefully at least 5x; I'd prefer not to go backward), I expect to go with that to replace my iPhone and iPad mini. I also have an iPad Air that I use at home so between the mini and the Air, I'm pretty used to Touch ID and I don't expect that lack of Face ID would be a problem.

If no telephoto... 🤔 I'll probably stick with what I have for another year; see if the Fold improves or maybe go with a 19 Pro or ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If there was something worth upgrading to the 18PM, I would trade in. But since it seems like it will be a boring upgrade, I am considering an iPhone Fold. I've used a Samsung Z Fold 7 and really like it, but whether I get Apple's Fold will all depend on what Apple does from a software perspective. I just don't think the multitasking window management stuff will be very good for a generation or two.

No interest in anything foldable.
Even back in the days, when everyone had a Moto Razr V3 or something similar form Nokia, I always had a standard candy bar phone. I never got the point of having to flip/unfold m phone before using it. I hated flip phones back then and never owned one.
And I will continue just like so with smartphones.

Besides: whenever there’s something mechanical involved (like hinges, flexible displays etc.), there is mechanical wear. So my inner voice would be like „don’t unfold again, you just closed it! It‘ll wear out!“.
No way 😂

I am somewhat undecided. I am planning on getting either the 18 Pro Max or the folding phone--but will wait to see exactly what the feature set of the folding phone encompasses. I used to be of the mindset that Apple does not need to or should not delve into the folding phone market, but I must admit that I am now intrigued--intrigued enough to think seriously about getting one if Apple indeed releases one this fall. Unfortunately, however, I cannot use Touch ID. Believe me, I have tried on the various iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks I have had over the last several years and it just never works consistently for me, whereas FaceID always reliably does. I have three iPads (13" M4 Pro, 11" M5 Pro, and 7th gen Mini) and I was so frustrated with the Mini's Touch ID I just had to disable it entirely so it would immediately go to asking for the passcode instead. Same goes for my MacBook Pro's TouchID (thank goodness it instantly unlocks with my Apple Watch!). So if the folding iPhone only has Touch ID, it is an instant no buy for me. I am certainly not going to spend that much money on the folding iPhone only to be frustrated with the Touch ID and needing to input a passcode every single time to unlock it (and I am obviously not going to carry around an iPhone without implementing security features). If the folding iPhone has FaceID, I will see what other features are better/worse/the same as the 18 Pro Max, then make my decision from there.

Folding phones looked good at first but too big. The iPhone version looks awful too. Other models look better.

And then we have a standard phone delayed and today we find out it will have downgraded features.

I update yearly to the standard model but may hold off for a while I think. Very disappointing.

I’m going to stick with the 18PM this year. I love the size of the Pro Max although and based off the rumors and photos of the iPhone Fold, I am not interested. It’s too short when folded and the perfect height and width when unfolded. I have no issues with Touch ID as I use it when using my mini 7 which I use quite frequently, although I prefer Face ID since I’m using it everyday with my 17PM and iPad Pro.

I swapped my air out for a moto razr ultra to try out a folding phone before apple releases theirs. So far I'm really enjoying it and I love the form factor that apple went with in theory.

Price may be the main decider on if I grab that or if I end up staying on Android for a bit. It's not as bad as it was the last time I tried it out that's for sure.

Yeah I get price being a major factor. It's not just about personal affordability but also if you think it's worth its value.

In our house we use, "I like this ...., but I don't £.... like it."

Myself I'm ok with the rumoured around £2k if I'm ok with the spec in the unveiling.

Then there is cases...............😵‍💫

It depends on the UK price but I'm quite interested in the Folding device. My 14 Pro is well overdue an upgrade and I'd be tempted to trade in my iPad Pro 12.9 at the same time so as long as it's not well over £2000 and I can get ~£500 total for two devices I think I'd bite

Probably $100+ for an Apple case, but I am sure there will be $50-ish options from Spigen and Supcase and others.
AppleCare will probably be more than the current $139/yr too, unless this device just has higher deductibles?
And I would not be surprised if there were new accessories to add some extra $ to those receipts at checkout. Maybe a Magic Keyboard dock?

I will be ordering the new Fold in the highest storage tier on launch day and then place this device in it's sealed Apple packaging into my iPhone collection. I really have no use for the fold however I do recognize the importance of this iPhone so that is why I'm doing this. I still enjoy using my 1TB Blue Titanium 15 Pro for daily use over my current 1TB Space Black Air and 1TB Deep Blue 17 Pro so if I need newer iPhones to use over my 15 Pro then I have the Air or 17 Pro I can still use.

I am not tempted by these fold devices, especially the crease these phones get due to folding screen. Once that issue is resolved, probably will think about it but considering that it would involve big $$$, I'll skip it unless its too tempting.

As for the Pro Max series, will keep on using 17 Pro Max for the next 3-4 years unless something revolutionary is introduced.

Have been waiting for a foldable from Apple for a long time. Have the Z Flip and have always been enamored with the Z Fold. However don't think I will be buying the iPhone Fold. Lack of FaceID is a huge downside for me. Also cannot do without a telephoto lens. Don't know how long it will take for Apple to bring both these features.

Wish I would have not upgraded to 17 Pro. It is a very boring phone, I cannot see a difference vs my older 11 Pro. I would have not upgraded to 18 or Fold either if I didn’t go for 17 Pro

I will definitely take a look at the fold in store once it’s released. If I’m blown away by it I may pick it up. But I doubt it though….. the small size of the exterior screen is putting me off. I can see myself mostly using the outside screen while on the go and 5.5” just won’t cut after being used to the PM phones for years…… if I don’t like it then I’ll be keeping my 17PM…. No interest in the 18 pro at all, would rather wait for the 20th anniversary to see what they do there…. I’m sure the new CEO will want to make a splash

I'm making assumptions on a name like Spinarelo but the reason I went from a 13PM to a 14P was because I found the PM too big in a jersey pocket.

Though, I leave my phone at home since getting an Ultra watch so I suppose the size of the fold would be irrelevant anyway
