Ok,
I think I am going to buy a copy of Osx 10.5 (Leopard), back up my files to my external HD by Du and do a freah install as it sounds a little dodgy upgrading. Hopefully then transfer the files and my bookmarks back over.
Im hoping this is going to be ok, Im still worried about my favourites (bookmarks) being safe and am a bit confused about the instructions in what they say about erasing etc, but you said to forget that yeah (maddog)?

I checked out carbon copy cloner and it appears to not include your bookmarks from safari when doing a back up ?

If you have the HD space, do an Archive and Install..

+1

I'd do the archive and install. Going from 10.3 to 10.5 if okay if you choose Archive and Install from the Customise tab during the installation.

You can preserve your settings and stuff, and it puts your old system documents in a 'Previous Systems' folder in your HD I think.

As long as you've got a good 9-10GB spare on your hard drive this is the best way to go.

You don't need to vitally back up your data this way as it's pretty safe.

Edit: Oh and if you do want to back up your drive and can't get Carbon Copy Cloner to work just use disk utility.

Open it up, hit the restore tab. Drag your internal HD on to the 'Source' field, (Where 100GB other is) and then your external to your Destination field (WD in this case), check the 'erase destination' box if it needs it, then 'restore.

This will just clone your internal on to your external. Best to use the disk utility on the Leopard install disk if I were you, much quicker.

Finally! I've got a copy and installed it, after all that though I just clicked away and forgot the options part, it appears to of done the upgrade and despite not configuring it on install everything is there just like before (bookmarks) only with the new Osx. ?
Can someone advise as to how that has happened, as I thought I had to do the perserv settings bit etc.
?
Also where would my 'Previous system' folder be ? I guess I wont have one if I didn't select that option.

Im a little confused.
