I did. Apple then called UPS and started an investigation.

After 5 hours - in which I've called UPS 5 times - UPS was in contact with the "new (wrong) MBP owner" but UPS wasn't able pick up the package, so they asked me to do it. And I did.

Typing/writing from it now and love it.

I'm expecting a economic compensation from UPS though Apple.

Wow. How much do you think you'll going to get?

And does a "wrong" owner have to pay any penalty for just... taking your stuff if they don't find a way to contact you?

I'm not sure how that would work.

Apple really isn't at fault here, but if anybody is going to offer compensation - it is them. It is highly unlikely that UPS will offer compensation - especially now that you've got your product - in which I assume was still sealed in its box.

I've had packages misdelivered before - UPS most definitely will not compensate you unless the package is lost. If you complain enough, apple may or may not give you a gift card - but I definitely wouldn't count on it.

The wrong owner does not have to pay a penalty if he did not open the package.

Really? That is as retarded as UPS telling you to go pick your package up yourself. First, UPS won't offer you crap and since you haven't been damaged you deserve nothing more than what you paid for. Second, UPS telling you to go pick your package up is a huge liability issue for them. I would be writing UPS to let them know as that conduct should not be tolerated.

When UPS loses a package the sender should compensate you by giving you whatever you ordered. Let the sender and shipper hash out the other details. Suing the sender/shipper is a waste of the courts time and money and a waste of your time. Asking the sender/shipper to compensate you after the issue was resolved in a short amount of time is greedy and just plain silly. To each is own I guess.

And yes, I have had expensive packages lost/stolen by DHL, UPS, and FedEx. Perhaps I just don't focus on what I can get out of life for absolutely nothing.

I'm going to guess UPS didn't TELL him to go pick it up. It was probably more that the driver was already done for the day and probably offered to pick it up the next day - but the OP was probably anxious and so UPS told him to pick it up.

UPS 'lost' my recent MB purchase, despite the fact that at one point it was on the truck and out for delivery. After six days had passed from the original delivery date (thanks to a weekend), I wasn't waiting anymore. Fed up with the uselessness of UPS (I didn't get the promised phone call, nor the promised delivery on Monday), I called Apple and canceled my order -- I told them that the wait was simply unacceptable, and that I would refuse delivery if and when the MB finally arrived.

Eventually the Apple rep understood. I explained to the rep that I didn't have the time or money to hassle with UPS. Face it, Apple gives them 100's of times the business as your avearge consumer. Let Apple use their purchasing power to force UPS to do something.

That same day, I went to my local campus reseller, and walked out with my new MB 15 minutes later. I don't know whatever happened to the package, but Apple already pushed through my refund.

People on this forum are so spoiled. You want to be paid because they accidently delivered it wrong? Inform Apple and the carrier that there is a problem, be firm, but not insulting, and it will get taken care of.

My first macbook, first mac I had ever bought, was delivered wrong by Fed-Ex. I was waiting at home for it checking its status and Around 1:30 I checked it and it had been updated saying it was delivered at noon, and someone's signature was available to see. Obviously not mine. I immediately informed FedEx and Apple, got it under investigation, and Apple soon sent me another one. Stuff happens. Nobody one this forum has not made a mistake.

This case is really 1 in 2000 I think. I understand your frustration! Demand Apple to settle it ASAP!

I couldn't agree more. I really can't believe you basically let UPS walk all over you? Each to there own though. I would of told UPS exactly where to stick the idea of ME going to pick the parcel up, you also haven't said if the package was tampered with in any way?
Also remember that there is now no documentation with your signature on it stating you got the computer, not that it probably matters.

if it's opened, the guy can be arrested (since it's not addressed to him) and you do not have to accept it. and you obviously will get a new one paid for by ups. chill!

good luck. oh yeah i agree...call apple asap.

This.

I once had my refurbished 360 sent to the wrong place and the person who signed opened it up lol. UPS ended up buying me a new one :D

like I said from my last quote,

I was asking the OP as you have only guessed at what has happened. And you also said this is not Apples fault, that is true but they ARE responsible for sorting it out. Like I said you have made assumptions that UPS would only get it the next day, I would like to hear the facts from the OP.

First, I never assumed anything - notice I used the words "guess" and "probably".

Second, I'm not trying to pick any fights here, but I don't see where you were asking the OP what happened. Quotes like:

and

apolloa said:

doesn't really sound like you're asking him what happened - you just assumed UPS was at fault. I am just playing devil's advocate, as there are too many people who just assume the OP was victimized by UPS - when there is a chance that is not the case.

And yes, my statements are all speculative.
The point was just to help broaden the narrow minded interpretation of the situation

Well, the comment:

I really can't believe you basically let UPS walk all over you?

In my eyes is directed at the OP as I said YOU. Either way it's what has happened also, it doesn't really matter if it is Apple or UPS's fault, at the end of the day it's disgusting that they delivered a very expensive item to a total stranger. Like I said I was directing to the OP and not you. The response you gave me was directly responding to that particular comment above.
Perhaps I was jumping the gun blaming UPS but regardless the fact he was told to collect the computer if he wished from a total stranger is disgusting. I'm sure UPS gets paid handsomely by Apple.

But the OP has obviously resolved it now anyway.

wow that sucks, glad it was resolved

I have many packages sent through the mail and never had one delivered to wrong address or get lost. Seems like some people have bad luck when it comes ti that sort of thing. Glad you are using your new MBP now.
