UPS Pre-Sign Form

I was having trouble getting access to the pre-sign form because I checked out as "guest" instead of using my Apple ID. I called Apple and the rep emailed me the form. Hope this helps!

I was looking at the UPS tracking page for my iPhone and I saw that there was an ad to sign up for the MyUPS service. It was free to register and one of the benefits is that you can automatically authorize delivery without a signature online. I have no idea if this will work or not, I still plan on leaving a shipment release, but for those people who will not be home for a UPS delivery, this may be an option you want to look into.

It is from the shipper, not the receiving end. If this works, I would have sign up for everybody and tell UPS to leave all the packages at their front door.

My UPS pre-sign worked fine. Printed out and signed and everything, ready to be taped up to the door Friday.

Asked them to leave it in the back, they've done it before so I'm sure they'll do it again.

Under the tracking preferences, this is information for the box to be checked:
"By selecting I authorize shipment release, I authorize UPS to deliver packages addressed to me at this address without obtaining a signature. I understand that the UPS driver retains discretion not to deliver a package depending on delivery conditions (such as adverse weather or safety)."

The ad itself is an InfoNotice sticker and it says "Tired of receiving these?" which seems to pretty clearly indicate that it is directed at the person receiving the packages.

I have a "MyUPS" account, but it won't let me authorize delivery of the iPhone with it. I have another delivery coming on Friday, as well, and I was able to authorize that one. On the iPhone tracking page, though, there's no option to authorize.

I'll definitely be leaving the paper authorization tacked to my door when I leave for work on Friday.

And you would get their tracking numbers how...?

Plus when you create your account at UPS.com it actually verifies some personal info through multiple choice questions (such as "What street have you lived on in the pas"t, 'what vehicle have you had in the past", etc)...info that likely no one but you would know.

Mine actually had a blue link beneath the big letters that said "Signature Required" that said something like "Signature Release Authorization". I clicked on it and it popped up with the same basic "UPS is not responsible" warning and a box for me to check to authorize delivery. It now says "Shipment Release Authorized" with a link below it that says "Cancel Shipment Release Authorization".

Tg=his worked for me although I didnt pre authorize just having them drop it off at a local UPS store for $5

Can you point me to that? I'd gladly pay $5 if I could pick it up and not have to rush home once it gets delivered. But when I click on "change delivery" on my tracking it basically says nothing is possible until the first delivery attempt is made (last line in italics below)

If you're the receiver...

Track with your UPS InfoNotice® Number (found above the barcode) and choose from up to four delivery change options:

Return to Sender
Deliver to a New Address
Reschedule Delivery -
Hold for Customer Pickup

Note: Prior to the first delivery attempt, contact the sender to request a change in delivery instructions or to correct your delivery address.

If you know you're not going to be home, just call FedEx and tell them you'll pick it up at the nearest hub later that evening. They will still try and deliver it, but then they will bring it back to the hub and you can sign for it there. Most are open till about 8pm or so. I do that for all packages that need a signature.

So strange - I was reading this thread, hear a knock at the door, it's UPS. So I asked him personally to leave it tomorrow. :D Luck!

I went the MyUps option, and spoke to a csr about the shipment release authorization. According to her, once you have selected that option there is nothing else you need to do, no notice to tape up, no twenties to slip into anyone's pocket, just sit and wait. (Also, she mentioned that you sometimes need to wait up to 90 minutes after signing up for the service to be able to select the release option.) Granted, i have spent the past week reading countless threads here pointing out the number of misinformed csr's involved in this whole pre-order fiasco, so she could very easily be wrong. Either way, it is what it is, you try it and it works, or you try it and it doesn't work. I just hope they update the tracking quickly as i work about 3 blocks from home, so i can go get it easily.

I've been signed up with the MyUPS free version for three days, and tracking my package for two, and I don't see anywhere on the UPS site where I would indicate it's OK to leave them at home...

I'm just printing the Apple release and leaving it on the door and hoping for the best (and that I'm not stalking UPS trucks tomorrow after work!)

Here is what I did. I selected the "Tracking" option on the top of the UPS page. On the page that came up, I selected the brown "UPS My Choice" tab near the top left. On the next page that came up, in the top right corner there is a blue link to "Preferences". Near the bottom of this page there is an option called "Delivery Instructions" and the only link in my section was "Authorize Shipment Release". I clicked this and on the pop-up window that came up I checked the box and hit okay. About an hour later on the tracking number page, a link appeared beneath the "Signature Required" heading that allowed me to authorize the release of the shipment.

I agree with you, I actually feel more confident leaving the Apple UPS release but hopefully this will guarantee I don't wind up with an InfoNotice saying I have to wait until Monday for my phone. At the least, this should come in handy in the future when I have less important packages coming.

Thanks for the details! I followed perfectly up to the point where you were on the preferences page. When I go to my Preferences I only have "Membership Information", "Other Household Members", "Delivery Alert Options", and "Payment Card Options"...nothing that says "Delivery Instructions" (I even used the search feature just to make sure I wasn't overlooking it!). So for some reason I'm not being offered that. But thanks for trying!

I don't know how those pre-sign things ever work. It didn't work for my iPhone 4, and when I was here to pick it up, it was in the name of the account holder and they were hassling me because the package name was in the name of my mother. The driver relented and accepted my signature, but he almost did not.
