I finished reinstalling with Archive and Install, but my files aren't there.

I still have all my apps, but things like my folders with all my files and such are gone! Is there a way to get it back or is it gone?

EDIT: Oh wait nevermind I believe I found it. Good. I was about to go crazy

Not to double post but:

What are some measures I can take to prevent this from happening again?

Also: It reset my settings on my browsers, it's acting like microsoft office is on a trial and etc etc. How can I fix those?

The only thing you can do to prevent this type of thing from happening again is to BACKUP. I know from experience that backing up is nessecary. Accidents like this can happen and the only way to avoid the problem is to start backing up.

You will have to go about reinstalling those apps. If you want to try and do it the easy way you can find the .plist files in the preferences folders.

As for the browser stuff, which ones? Just go digging around for those files and ee if you can just drag and drop them.

Well not my settings but my bookmarks and everything else. I'll look for the files for my other programs like Word, and Maya and hope I can find those. Thanks

Where would I begin looking for these?

I need help setting up my whole life again pretty much :(

Also, should I reinstall Leopard? I'm a bit wary of doing anything else to my computer after this fiasco.

Also, can someone tell me the terminal command for accessing the private folder? I'm trying to fix some of my old programs

This really isn't as important but:

When I reisntalled my sound is a lot louder than usual. Before setting my volume to 4 is perfect, but here anymore than 1 is deafening, how do I fix this?

The volume thing is strange but shouldn't be related to the stability of the OS as a whole. Take the time to buy a decent external and remember to use Time Machine or some other backup solution. The more frequently you back up, the less you lose in the event something like this happens again.

Right now everything is on track, just need to reallocate the files accordingly and I should be set to go. I just want to figure out what caused my volume issue.

The Archive and Install reinstalled Leopard, so you should have a straightened out copy of the OS. Go ahead and run the updates.

This is indeed weird, what Macintosh are you running the OS on? Maybe a little idea of what hardware you have might help in isolating the issue.

I'm running an iMac, and it doesn't really say much about the audio other than "Intel High Definition Audio"

I'm thinking maybe just an update will fix it, or a setting somewhere?
