Thank you all for your advice and suggestions, despite a number of stupidly-caustic remarks that were absolutely unnecessary in this thread.

In any case, I bit the bullet and bought myself a white 64GB WiFi+4G iPad (plus Apple's smart cover and a Targus back cover)...now on to set it up and enjoy the retina screen!

Cheers,

BRLawyer

Gratz! Enjoy the iPad. It will serve you well.

AT&T.
Was getting signal up to 9500ft! That said, not sure if I got data at that height. Getting signal and reliable data are 2 different factors.

Not that it matters much, T-Mobile was totally different. Moment I lift off, lost phone signal.
No experience with Verizon or Sprint.

I might have to activate my data for that. I have Verizon but I think their. Data woouod be just as good if not better.

Relax. Just asking, that's all. Nothing wrong with spending money frivolously if you've got it. I pull in a decent income myself and do similar things. But if you're going to brag about stuff like this in a public forum and claim that spending the extra $130 just so you can track your flight on a plane is worth it, don't be surprised when people question your priorities.
Bragging about what? Obviously it was a facetious comment. Some people spend $10/day on cigarettes. Or spend $40 on drinks in a bar every week, or go to casinos and lose hundred or thousands of dollars. That's their business. Who are you to determine what is "frivolous" for someone elses enjoyment? You think I was bragging about being able to spend $129 extra for an iPad with a GPS? Or did you believe I was bragging that I paid $498.67 for a 50cent cup of Applesauce that I stole from a 2 year old? Now THAT'S funny. It was all just a snide comment about yet another ridiculous "urgent" thread subject. By the way, I'm retired so I no longer "take in" any income so I have nothing to brag about. What I have, I have earned in over 50 years of hard work.

I've just cancelled my Apple Online Store order for a new WiFi iPad after remembering that only the 4G version has an aGPS functionality.

Now I need reasons to justify that slightly-more-expensive purchase to my wife...I mentioned, of course, the possibility to use navigation apps with pre-loaded maps when we go places.

However, I already have GPS in my car and she said that we could do the same with her iPhone 4...so my simple question is:

What other possible uses are there for GPS-enabled iPads besides pure turn-by-turn navigation? Geotagging of photos? What else?

Your prompt replies are greatly appreciated!

Just admit to your wife the truth, that you are a low life spending the money without need!:p
