US Apple Store stock info - updated every 15 minutes

I used that JSON feed for days to check stock at my local Apple Store during the day. Easier to check that every so often throughout the day than to call the store every few hours! And got my iPhone because of it, no thanks to AT&T's DF.

Also never really understood why Apple is using a client-side Javascript to control the availability checker on their site. If they're going to do that, they might as well just offer the data 24 hours a day, for this very reason -- it's easy to circumvent!

AND BTW -- Apple would be crazy to give too many IPhone 3G (Their signature device which they work so hard on) [but still has so many manufacturing defects found in units] to a ****, underserving company like ATT]....
Your right, Apple should have gone with Verizon. That way we could buy tons on $9.99 apps (no freebies) from GetItNow, ditch Safari and YouTube (free) for VCast ($$), and drop free Google Maps for VZ Navigator ($$). Yeah, that would be sweet.

Seriously, in my (limited) dealings with AT&T so far, they seem OK to me. I don't understand most of the venom directed at them. And much of the success of the 3G is due to the $200+ AT&T subsidizes for each phone.

Does it contain stock for ATT stores as well or just Apple Retail

I created a simple inventory checker for AT&T.

All retail locations - 0 8gb Black iPhones, 0 16gb White iPhones, 0 16g Black iPhones.

It's a shame because the closest Apple stores to me are 2 - 3 hours away. I have 2 AT&T stores within 20 minutes.

poitnarf: Thanks for the clarification.

wronski: I know -- I was referring to Apple's own availability page, which can be checked throughout the day by changing your system clock.

this thing is either ridiculously inaccurate or apple employees are lying. An hour ago a store in my area showed no stock. Now it shows all green (in stock) on all models. Called the store and was told out of stock. Wth? What gives?

Same thing here... All stores in North Carolina show ALL iPhone models in stock. So I thought I'd run over to the Apple store at lunch and pickup a black 16 GB iPhone, but when I called my local Apple store I was told they were out of stock of ALL models of the iPhone.

What's up Apple? I wonder if this is a standard response to availability inquiries over the phone versus coming and standing in line?

Has anyone found this to be very accurate? I cant get thru to Apple (makes sense) and I really want to trade my phone in.

Same here in VA. The site shows all models in stock, but calls to the store yield replies of "no iPhones today". I even stopped by the pentagon city store and they had a sign out front turning people away.

My hypothesis is that the availability page tracks shipments FROM Apple to the various stores. That's why it's generally around 24 hours out of sync with actual stock in stores. If a store that was red changes to green during the day, iPhones will probably be in stock the next day.

Here we go again..

Just turned 11am PDT, and the JSON feed just went null.

Yesterday, it came back around 5pm PDT.. perhaps it will come back again by then..

BL.

Try changing your system clock and checking the Apple page directly. It's working right now -- I just checked.

Stock just increased out the wazoo! Lots of em available now.

If they are updating again every 15 minutes I would think it would almost be the current inventory and not tomorrow's stock.

First the feed doesn't update every 15 minutes only the 3rd party site in the thread does that. The feed seems to update hourly.

Second JSON is a client side tech but the JSON arrays are being populated by a server side call. If you are calling the JS directly who knows where the server side data is coming from (hence the nulls perhaps).

Third I'm going to check tonight and call tomorrow again and see if they have any to validate/invalidate the 24 hour theory. I thought something similar - that it was reflective of deliveries coming in on a given day so if you called at say noon and the UPS guy showed at 2 they wouldn't know they were getting them until 2...

I don't think it's accurate in terms of what's actually in stock during the day. On Wednesday, it showed that the Walnut Creek, CA store had all three phones available all day. I was at the store around noon that day and they were all sold out. I drove past this afternoon, it's about a 10-minute drive, and the out of stock sign was up. I had checked before and after my drive, and it showed the store had all three phones. Just a FYI...

Just called both stores in Vegas, both are completely out, but the site showed both stores having them in stock... YOU'RE A PHONY! HEY, THIS GUY'S A GREAT BIG PHONY! HEY, YOU'RE A GREAT BIG PHONY, YOU KNOW THAT?

Whats wrong with you? Apple might have blocked the data from being retrieved, hence the reason for the wrong info...

I went by the apple store today and they told me they were out and the site says they have some, funny thing is they told me to be there when they open at 8 in the morning because thats when they sell them. For some reason I think they get the shipment in the day before but don't want to take away from their other business so they don't sell them during the day.
Just my opinion.
