I know in Europe some iMacs and Mac Pro's are made in Ireland. I remember when I worked in a photography studio my Mac Pro was built in Ireland.

See, being from Ireland, my first two MBP's were from China! I wasn't under the impression that they manufactured anything there, I've actually been past their Cork offices once ages ago and well.. it's very un-Apple, one of the most hideous buildings I've ever seen!

Although they do have newer offices inside the City centre too on Half Moon Street, so that might suggest you're right, as the ones inner City are definitely just offices, whereas that bizarre mutation of a building could have anything in it really! Especially a leisure centre from the 1970's, or a backup set for Logans Run.

It would be cool if they were made in the USA to provide jobs for American workers. But sadly, it's just not economically viable.

I dunno. Since none of the parts are actually made in the US, can you really claim the computer was made in the US if you are simply just slapping it together?

Well that gets into really how archaic most of the "made in" labeling laws are, at least in the US. They were really designed when most manufactured items went from raw materials to finished product(usually there weren't nearly as many parts either) totally in one country, often times in a single factory. For better or for worse, times have changed but the laws have often not kept up.

For what its worth, Apple often doesn't use "made in" but rather the more accurate "assembled in" when referring to the country that their products were well, assembled in.

They probably make it in China but store it in the US sometimes.

My 27" 2011 BTO iMac says "Assembled (or Made) in USA" on the bottom of base of the iMac. I was pleasantly surprised of this because I thought it would have shipped from China.

As far as I know, my BTO iMac was assembled in Northern California, not too far from Apple HQ, then shipped to me in Southern California. As far as I know, the final assembly of a machine like this is done locally but the parts are from various places around the world. Either way, I'm glad it was assembled here as it put an American to work.

I would provide photos but I have to power it off, disconnect everything, move everything off my table, lay it on its face (display side down), take photos, prop it back up, reconnect everything, power it back on, connect my camera, upload photos, then post on the forum. Just take my word for it. If anything, I think the spec sticker on the iMac box says "Assembled/Made in USA". I'll look when I have the chance and take a picture of that.

Can someone confirm that BTO iMacs are made in the USA?

Final assembly of some Apple CTOs occurs in the U.S. but all current components are manufactured in various parts of east Asia. Unlike the market for vehicles, most products sold in the U.S. need not disclose a percentage of domestic manufacture, and final assembly is sufficient to declare the goods as being "Made in the U.S.A." The More You Know (Tm).

Assembled by FedEx. They have some of the largest assembley electronic productions lines and warehouses in the USA.

We had a tour of thier opperations for work and was surprised to see the amount of cell phones and computers being put together.

Compare the comparative weight of an MBA and an iMac, and then consider that if it ships from China it has to ship by air to get to you in any reasonable amount of time. Now consider how much more it costs to ship an iMac by air due to all that weight. And there you have your answer.
