From what I understand, the AirPort slot will not accept anything else but an AirPort card.

If I remember it correctly Apples AP slot is not PCMCIA pin compatible by design even though the card electronics might be. Apple didn’t want competitors cards to work in that slot.

In theory it might be possible to make an adapter to match the pins. But, then there is driver side of things.
