Apple is losing me as a customer. I used to buy pretty much every single product on day 1 or relatively soon after launch. But not this time around.

Apple, as a company used to force some new standards/stuff into its products because it believed it was a way to push the user experience.

But by going full on with a SINGLE USB-C, Apple just jumped too quick without figuring the UX through.

The new MB is supposed to be a product for someone who needs the ultimate portability while retaining full productivity. It could have been the perfect laptop for road warriors since all they need is to be able to run browsers and Office in the lightest form possible while being able to plug into/onto storage, projector... etc effortlessly.

So now they need to bring multiple adapters to achieve that. First an adapter to get normal USB (since it would take a long while until USB-C becomes mainstream. You can't expect all your customers/clients/partners to be USB-C ready) and video output. Then another adapter to get the right video output. Not to mention if one wants to use its laptop as THE charging station for iDevices, they now need to find a USB hub capable of delivering 2.1A.

What's the point of getting it down so thin when you have to carry adapters with you to actually use it?

The Asus UX305 is better in almost every sense at 2/3 of the price. If someone figures a way to hackintosh that thing, nMB is done.

You don't need a special hub. Any usb-c to usb-a adapter will charge your phone.

If you are worrying about connecting to a projector with a Mac, you'll have to carry an adapter with ANY Mac you choose, as VGA is the only connection you can guarantee that any projector you run into will have.

If you want to have a device that's twice as thick and probably at least a pound heavier to not have to carry a 1oz. dongle for the extremely rare occasion you might need it, then obviously this computer is not for you.

Neat.... Look at that bulky-ness :apple:

Hey, if it works,, i just also see it as "one more dongle to loose"

so can one use this Adapter to charge and do other port functions simultaneously?

am thinking maybe other manufacturers can come up with a solid extension hub to include all ports one can wish for and charge at the same time??

You can. The problem is that you'll need different cables for when you're attaching your peripherals directly to the computer and when you're connecting them through this adapter.

its a workable compromise i suppose
as opposed if it only allowed one functionality at a time

You have to buy a USB hub on top of this. So you're looking at spending at least an additional $100 to make your new MacBook useful.

Most of the actual buyers will buy neither. My wife has never, ever plugged anything into her MacBook except that she has used the USB ports as iPhone chargers. Convenient because your iPhone charger can stay at home. That's all that you lose.

What you are complaining about is like buying a two seater sports car and complaining that it doesn't have space for a family with four children.

----------

Still seems unclear if it can charge while using the USB-C port for data.

That's the whole point of USB-C, that one port can do everything.

----------

Apply only sells a 27" Thunderbolt display, the same display they've had for a few years and that they've been pushing for all their laptops. So.....Apple doesn't actually sell a display (any display at all) that this new Macbook can be attached to for external monitor? Is that correct?

There are many, many companies who will gladly sell you a monitor that you can connect to the MacBook. Why would you insist that it is an Apple monitor? Especially since Apple only sells absolutely high end monitors, and people might want a less powerful but cheaper monitor.

----------

So you need this adapter if you have an iPhone because in order to setup wifi sync, you need to sync with a cable first.

Good job Apple, good job.

Well, let's say you take your MacBook and your phone to an Apple store and ask them how to set up wifi sync. I think they will tell you "you could buy this adapter for $79, but you can also just borrow this adapter here for five minutes and set it up".

BTW there are already USB to USB-C adapters. They still cost $19, but cheaper ones will come.

I managed to connect the new 2015 Macbook to a 27" LED Cinema Display using the USB-C to HDMI connector, a HDMI to Displayport adapter from Delock and a simple Displayport to Mini Displayport adapter.

The Delock adapter is shown here: http://www.delock.com/produkte/S_62496/merkmale.html

Needed to fiddle a bit with the Display Preferences before finally getting the monitor to actually show something as you can see in the picture below. I have not experimented with the Thunderbolt displays yet.

What an ugly looking desktop with zilions of connectors this leaves me with now :-(

I don't know if they are available yet... but could you get a femal to male USB C cable and hide all of those ugly bits under your desk?
