Does it not? AirDrop works, iCloud syncing... well, it's not any WORSE because of the ports issue.

I suppose iTunes syncing and backup won't work without first connecting and turning on WiFi sync. Is that how it works in MacOS, I've been on Windows all my life?
The wifi itunes sync is really terrible.

View attachment 670861 Why is it always "I need a bunch of dongles and cables, bla bla ba..."? Just get one of these:

Try "because they get hot", very hot depending on brand. Most are also of marginal quality.
Biggest issue I have had with my rMB.
[doublepost=1478620825][/doublepost]
Nobody who takes their job seriously would walk into a meeting with ANY modern computer and assume they have the proper connection to the projector. EVERYONE who ACTUALLY does this carries dongles with them already.

In our Windows network of ~100 machines, I think 2 of them have SD card slots - and those are micro-sd so hardly useful for reading most camera cards.

Talk about the entitled generation...

Actually you are totally wrong. For the last few years, with very very few exceptions, I have not had a connectivity issue in regards to hardware. I use a Lenovo X230 for business. Dongles or adapters not required. Talking globally - at least as far as NA, Brazil, EU, Aus, China, and Japan.
If you have to play the dongle game something is really wrong.

"Here, grab those pictures from my SD card."
Answer: Can't you just sent them via bluetooth or create shared folder in Google Drive?" That is the present and the future.

"Here, copy that on my thumb drive."
Answer: No, I will share a Google Drive folder with you. Because thumb drives are annoying and you and everyone else will lost it anyways."

"Here, use my mouse"
Answer: What? You don't have a bluetooth mouse? Or why would you use mouse anyways when you have a god-tier trackpad.
I would be a bit cautious of plugging anything into my computer that I didn't know what it was first.

The issue is easily solved with dongles and/or USB-C Hub. You can also get a SD Card reader and you have the ability to use an SD card.

I've never heard anyone sharing a mouse before, but if you need too, you can always get a wireless mouse or just use the aforementioned dongle.[/code]

Sorry but you are just rationalizing the "bring back the dongle" behavior that Apple is apparently regressing into.

The whole Apple wireless connectivity myth. I bought into it with my rMB and have found the experience to be far poorer than I had heard or envisioned. Sadly. :(

Congratulations. You have one of the world's last laptops with VGA still included! At 12" and 3.5lbs though, I think the rest of the world is happy to move on to something a bit more modern. No HDMI for you either though, so when you hit a conference room where a TV has replaced the projector (an increasingly common practice) you too, will be SOL without a dongle.

With my iphone 4s and then 6 I can't count how many times they didn't sync properly with my 2011 MBP unless I plugged them into the USB instead of using wifi. Wireless might be the future, but Apple have yet to master the present.

I just wish Apple was a bit more consistent between their products. I get that USB C is the future, yet the new iPhone I just bought comes with the old USB cable. It took "courage" to eliminate the headphone jack from the iPhone, yet the MBP released after it still has it.

To me it's not so much the inconsistency, which is understandable in a manufacturing environment where issues and delays occur, it 's the B.S. that goes along with it. Based on the iPhone presentation, should we logically conclude that the MB Pro showed cowardice?
[doublepost=1478622622][/doublepost]
The iphone thing has been so dumb to me the entire time. You realize at least how many people would have flipped their **** if their iphones came without a regular usb cable

So why not both, considering the profit margin on the iPhone, and considering Apple knew it's laptops were coming out with just USB-C?

You would think so. What I have found is that most access via their internal network (wifi or cable) and precludes physical links. This has become common. Conferences or other venues that have HDMI only and require you use it are exceedingly rare. What I have found is that the use of "C" is not. Haven't used it yet outside of a couple of devices.
Of all my ports, that gets the least use.
Side note: The times I do use my rMB for meetings/presentations, the wireless connectivity is not as robust nor as consistent.

Use of VGA is pretty much dead.

Common. Between my rMB, iPad Mini 4, and iPhone 6S+, the times they can all see / communicate with each other is the exception rather than the rule. Inconsistent at best. A big disappointment.

Or the people who want to complain about the same thing over and over can complain in a single thread instead of thinking their argument makes them a special snowflake needing yet another topic to complain about the same thing.

Thanks for all the input. Yes, dongles can be carried in a backpack, and will thus often be there when you need them. But I watched lots of people flounder about a VGA-to-displayport dongle when VGA first disappeared, and I expect the same to happen with HDMI and SD and so forth now. Many on this thread seem to treat the absence of the ports as an advantage. Perhaps there is a minor weight savings or something. And maybe you don't use those ports any more and won't miss them. I've used all of them in the last 3 months, so to me it seems premature to drop them all.

But I realize that griping on MacRumors--or even sending feedback to Apple--will almost certainly not help.

Who knows? Maybe I'll actually like having the new MacDongleBook Pro!

My friend literally showed me his iPhone Lighting to headphone adapter clipped to a carabiner on his belt. OMG

Going from no USB-C ports to ONLY USB-C ports

Never really thought about this point, but you're right.

Rene Ritchie of iMore postulates that the MBP was due to be released before the iPhone 7, and if they did that. The port selection (and head phone jack) would have made sense.

Its a logical conclusion, but I know what you mean.

It still doesn't make sense that the cable that comes with the iPhone doesn't plug into the MBP.

I'm slightly confused with some of the comments, not that I'm calling people liers but do you guys actually use your laptops in the "real world" or are you just jumping on the "dongle hate"?

I visit several locations each day and connect to a range of different displays at clients homes and premises, usually if they are a large business they have the solution readily available on site in the confrance room. Smaller businesses and clients homes not so much but that's why I have a range of dongles/adapters to cover most situations and it has been like this for as far back as I can remember, the dongle is nothing new and this has existed long before today's MB and MBP'S.

Sure the last generation offered a better selection out of the box but it still didn't cover all bases and I for one am happy that Apple have decided on one input format this time around it makes things simpler, plus that the port is so versatile it's a win win.... so we need a few new dongles/adapter, they'll just live in my laptop bag with all the other bits and pieces in there it's no biggie....

I guess having to take dongles to your local coffee shop doesn't make you look as hip hahaha ;)

The year was 1998. iMac was the first and ONLY Mac with USB-A... and ONLY USB-A.

What ports did the iMac before that have?

Edit: I've had a Google and see the iMac was released in 1998. So I'm not really sure of your point.

I'm agreeing that it's odd to have a computer with no USB-C ports only to then update it with only USB-C. It would make sense to have a few USB-C and then one USB-A.

But that's just my opinion.

Their Rant is valid though. This is a discussion forum. Anything posted here whether question or comment has 9/10 been said a million times. When I don't like a post I just skip over it.

For every thread that was posted a million times, there is someone telling them such.

If a 10$ dongle was included in the box you would find something else to complain about.

I honestly believe if they included a dongle with the missing ports there would be minimal complaining (about the ports, anyway).

They should have just stuck in one of these:

http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MJ1K2AM/A/usb-c-digital-av-multiport-adapter?fnode=8b.

Maybe replaced the HDMI with a SD card slot.

None as the iMac was a new product, but the computer it replaced (an all-in-one Power Macintosh G3 with essentially the same specs) had DB-15, ADB, SCSI, Serial, Geoport and S-Video.
So, no USB. I'm still not sure of your point.
