Worked great!
Lamer note: In case no one has noticed or posted, if you try the terminal script, you have to log out and log back in to notice the changes.
Thank you.
Hahaha, I just got really bored so I decided to try out the new Xcode to make an app that would do this. So, complete with an over the top leopard styled UI, I introduce CustomDock!![]()
PS: I know it's useless you don't have to tell me![]()
Have you tried just killing the Dock? Not true. Possibly if you are using a non-admin account you would have to. But Ive swapped from 2d to 3d and back in terminal without having to log out.
Oh, sorry... do you want me to post the separator files?
Go ahead and download them. They go in the following folder:
System/Library/CoreServices/Dock/Contents/Resources
Important: Don't forget to rename the current files to separatorstraight_backup.png and separatorstraight-horizontal_backup.png before you copy my files into that folder or you won't be able to switch back to the originals again if you change your mind.
Have fun.
By the way, if you wanna know how I removed the separator completely from the 3D Dock, I just renamed separator.png to separator.bak.png (this way the Dock can't find the file, so therefore doesn't display it).
Here's a couple of easy to use Automator actions for switching between the 3D Dock (Default on Bottom) to the 2D Dock (black Transparent on Bottom). It's for people who are not comfortable using the Terminal in fear of them screwing something up.
Here's a couple of screenshots.
Left image is 2D Dock
Right image is the Default 3D Dock
Note: This is only to be used on Leopard. It probably won't do a single thing in Tiger.
Weird. I use the 2D Dock and I get the black background behind the text. The problem I have with the 2D Dock is that the name of the item you're looking at no longer has the dark background behind it. It's just white font, which can be hard to see in certain situations.
Has anyone found a way to have the 2D dock but still with the dark bubble behind the item names?
Thank you. Unlike some people who like to complain about how easy the Terminal is compared to just double clicking an icon.
