Yes and No. Not by default but reading the instructions and comments in this thread you should be able to manually add in your pads USB ID info and get the driver to pick it up, after that it's a per game thing. If that game happens to be a Feral game I should be able to get it working (if you have the game picking up in the drivers).

Thanks for the help, there are 2 xbox 360 controllers from microsoft, one is xbox 360 controller & the other which is slight cheaper is Xbox360 controller for pc. Are they both the same? I m wrote to Feral as i was considering the ps3 controller as it was easy setup but got the bummer that there is no vibration with the ds3 so passed on getting it. Decided to get the xbox360 controller & run the 3rd party drivers as i need shock feedback in my games. Will the vibration work with the wireless xbox360 controller with the windows receiver? sorry for all the question really confused which gamepad to get for my mac gaming.

Thanks..

They are both the same the the "for PC" one is wired, the other one is wireless and needs a dongle as well as the pad. They both are supported by the driver but the wireless one you will need the PC Wireless dongle as well as the pad.

With the driver it supports rumble in Feral games. However those drivers are open source not written by Microsoft so the support you get on the drivers is limited if something goes wrong. That said it's pretty stable if you have a Microsoft branded pad so I would not expect any issues.

Enjoy!

Yes, I work for Feral (not in Support myself I just like helping out on the forums), I helped write our pad support systems and also contributed to the third party pad support on the open source 360 drivers with a few (small) bits of info. :)

Do you suffer from random crash when playing tomb raider in OSX?

I also use the 360 wireless controller to play this game, it is awesome. However, it crash every 10-15 minutes.

Have you contacted Feral? We can't fix bugs we don't know about :(

That said that doesn't sound like anything anyone else has reported. As for the 360 pad being the issue we have 4 or 5 here and Tomb Raider has thousands of hours of Mac gameplay logged in testing using the 360 so it's definitely not a generic issue with the pad.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will contact Feral. I just run the game again but only use keyboard. It's still crash. So, most likely nothing related to the pad.

Which are the current best drivers to install for Mavericks?

I just bought an Xbox 360 controller and installed these drivers:
http://tattiebogle.net/index.php/ProjectRoot/Xbox360Controller
(clicked newest version disk image, installed and restarted)

I fired up trine on steam and when I select gamepad as my controller I can go up and down on the menus but the red and green buttons for select and back do not work. I assume this means its not working properly.

ps
If I need to install a different driver how do I uninstall the tattiebogle driver?

Those are the only 360 drivers for Mac OS X.

There are forks, however. One of said forks has the Force Feedback driver re-written and better.

I wish people would just contribute to the main codebase instead of making different forks.

Btw do you have a link to the fork you mentioned?

I've recently played the Steam version of Trine on my Mac with two 360 controllers (co-op) so I can confirm that they will work with the game using the Tattiebogle driver (I use the 0.11 version as the latest one won't recognise any controllers in my case). That said it was a bit of a faff getting them working. The default set up didn't work properly and they required a bit of setting up. In the Trine menu you have to go to 'Options' then 'Controller Configuration' to enable the controllers. I then had to remap the buttons in one of the custom configurations within the 'Customize Controllers' section to get everything to work.

I hope that helps.

For what it's worth, I couldn't get that newer fork to work in Snow Leopard. I got the same thing that happens with the 0.12 version, whereby no controllers are recognised. I can only assume it's perhaps more useful in Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks?

I tried your suggestions last night. The custom mapping went fine, it recognised button presses. However, when the game opened the left joystick worked but it ignored the mappings for the other buttons. The main problem was that once the game was running the keyboard was not recognised and there was no way to quit the game. I ended up having to actually kill the power to the laptop.

I might have another go but if its such a poor experience I may just bootcamp when I use the controller. I have been doing that but I was hoping to be able to dive in to a quick platformer in OSX without a restart.

Sounds a bit peculiar.

Did you make sure you made the customised set of controls active in the setup? I've attached a screen shot of what I mean. You usually have check this each time you start a game as it reverts to it's default

Yep after I set the custom controller config and did all the button binding it hadn't set it to be the current custom config. I also noticed the next page button to show the options for binding the very important pause menu button (since the keyboard goes dead after selecting gamepad).

Thanks for the help

Usually the Steam and Mac AppStore builds are identical and when I mean identical I mean the binary is exactly the same :)

Edwin

After a serious test, end up it's the download itself contain some corrupted file. I simply delete and re-download the Apps again, problem fixed. Now the game run flawlessly with my 360 controller. It's never the driver's issue.

so I'm still having problems w mine. macbook pro 2012 running 10.9 here.

i have a wired afterglow controller. i've tried drivers .11, .12, and .13. i just ran the terminal script for third party controller support. my macbook appears to recognize the controller in system preferences, but it doesn't work w any games. and by not working w games, i mean it doesn't even show i have a controller connected (only shows keyboard options).

is there something I'm missing?

UPDATE: it works in tomb raider! but not in any other game i tried (maybe bc its 3rd party controller)
