Boo!

It appears you have the same issue as I have with the VF5 EX2 Stick :(

There's an appropriate entry in the 360Controller.kext with the correct decimal values for the product and vendor ID's yet it still doesn't work.

I know how you feel and you have my sympathies. The fact that the device is listed and coloured blue seems to suggest that the driver knows it's there but for some reason it fails to work, as does my EX2. I hope this bug (if that's what it is) might get fixed soon, but time will tell.

It's a poor solution, but if you're desperate, a 1st party wired 360 controller should work fine (it does for me anyway).

Well this sucks.

Also gamestop here with me in Ireland doesn't sell Microsoft controllers. Just third party stuff.

I got this controller working in Bootcamp, but I'd prefer to play my steam games in OS X if available.

I did see this recently about the Wii U Pro controller for OSX and Windows, but I haven't gone and bought one yet.

http://www.destructoid.com/wii-u-pro-controller-can-now-be-used-on-a-pc-mac-245781.phtml

I only got the controller for a few games such as Castle Crashers, Assassin's Creed and others that play better than a mouse and keyboard.

I found some instructions elsewhere a while back which involved getting other numbers from an IOCFPlugInTypes line in an ioreg.txt file and appending to the 360controller.kext much like you can do with the product and vendor ID's.

Sadly, I couldn't get my stick working with this method either, but maybe it might be worth a shot for your pad.

The instructions are here:

Thanks mate. I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

If not I'll just walk down to Gamestop and ask for a refund, then probably order a Microsoft wired one. Seems to be the best option everywhere.

Just to reference it was a driver mess getting this pad to work on windows as well, and even then I only worked for Castle Crashers and not anything else.
Gamestop.com reviews aren't good overall as well.

Got this on Monday and it's been nothing but a waste of time and hassle so far.

I notice when I click the plus the GameStopGamepad4 is coloured blue, while everything else is black.

That means you have hit the strange driver bug. No clue why it does not work as it is partially picked up. I don't write the drivers but that bug is something I might have a look at in my spare time.

However the idea of me having spare time is a bit of a running joke in the last few months :)

Well I went and got a full refund at gamestop. Now ordered myself a Microsoft 360/PC wired controller from OCUK.

Hopefully that sorts out my issues.

My proper microsoft 360 wired controller arrived today.

I plugged it in, and immediately started to work. I have not touched the drivers I previously installed.

Had a quick 5 minute run in Castle Crashers and it works perfectly. Even recorded a quick video of it. I'm extremely grateful to the chaps, and ladies that worked on these drivers.

Here's a quick youtube video of it working.
Quite happy with it. :)

EDIT And one hour later, finally got it to work! Unsure of what combination was required, but...
1. enabled 64bit kernel & extensions
2. installed 0.12, reboot (didn't work)
3. uninstalled 0.12, reboot
4. installed 0.11, reboot
5. removed support for all other controllers but "Controller", reboot
6. success

Just created an account to tell you this worked for me. After that, I simply turned my controller off and back on and clicked the ))) button on both devices once again. It instantly worked.
Thanks man! I thought I was going to have to re-download all my games for my Windows partition if I wanted to use my controller with them.

My specs:
iMac, OSX Lion 10.7.5
Intel Core i7 @ 2.8 GHz
8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Offcial Xbox wireless controller
Generic signal receiver made in china, hahaha.

Generic signal receiver made in china

Nice, so do these cheapo wireless receivers now work with wireless controllers or is it a bit hit and miss?

I was under the impression that only the 1st party receiver could be used but didn't fancy forking out for one for what would only amount to the odd bit of gaming on my mac. If the 3rd party ones work then I'll get one as I have 3 wireless controllers that I'd like to see some use of once my 360 passes on.

I don't suppose you know what make of generic receiver you bought do you Lizergic?

So, I decided to give the xbox controller a try (with Arkham Asylum and Arkham City).
I tried the driver versions 0.11 and 0.12. Both of them work only after a reboot, meaning that if I put my iMac to sleep, or unplug the controller and replug it some time later, it stops working. I have to reboot for it to work again. Kind of annoying for someone who never turns off his machine…

Any idea ? I tried manually unloading the driver (with kextunload), but os x refused because there were 3 or 4 instances of the Wireless360Controller class. Unfortunately, I am not familiar enough with OS X drivers to know what that means...

The specs:
OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4
iMac 2011, i7 3.4GHz, 16GB RAM, Raden HD 6970 2GB VRAM.
Official Xbox wireless controller and receiver.

Have a look on the previous page, there's a few comments near the top which show how to remove the drivers and how to make the system forget about them as well.

it involves using the Terminal though. It worked for me, and even after waking from sleep I can use the gamepad without issue, through a USB hub as well.

You're not alone :(

I'm in a similar position. I decided to treat myself to an official wireless receiver as I have 3 spare wireless 360 controllers that I figured would be nice to use. Got the wireless receiver today, synced up the controller without any problems and all was fine. All was rosy and beautiful.

Having disconnected the receiver and the mac being put to sleep at various times during the day, I've come back to plugging the receiver in for a bit of gaming. The receiver lights up fine but refuses to sync with the controller which just flashes all 4 quadrants.

Like yourself, a reboot fixes the problem but it's a rather heavy handed solution. I tried relaunching the finder - didn't help, and I've tried going back to versions 0.08 and 0.09 of the drivers which work but have the same thing happen. I've also tried quitting the 360Daemon in the activity monitor and restarting it (on the off-chance that it might refresh the driver somehow) but alas, no joy.

Same spec mac but with 10.6.8. Likewise any advice would be gratefully received.

EDIT: Just updated to driver 0.10 and the controller is managing to sync up even after some unplugging/replugging of the receiver. The mac has also been put to sleep/woken too. I don't know if this is just dumb luck or not but will see how things pan out.

EDIT 2: I think it was dumb luck. I've had the mac sleeping last night. Plugged in the receiver this morning and tried to sync up with the controller and just got the flashing ring again, with the driver (0.10) not recognising it. :(

Hi ho, hi ho, it's back to wires we go.

Would the intent of trying to get a console controller working on your Mac is to play a console game on it? Otherwise keyboard/mouse, especially for FPS is superior.

I find mouse and keyboard absolutely horrible. Trying to do secondary actions like crouch, switch weapons, knife, anything other than aiming is horrible. Pkaying darkness 2 with a mouse and keyboard was brutal. controller is better than mouse and keyboard everytime imo.

I am the complete opposite, no way would I want to play Borderlands or Napoleon Total War with a gamepad! Too slow and imprecise for anything where mouse movement is important.

Then again it's all a matter of preference. :)

Same for me, mouse and keyboard for everything. bar arcade style/console games games which need it. Castle Crashers, Gun monkeys and the like.

Some of that must be what you are used to. I find keyboard/mouse to be much more accurate than console controller thumb/joysticks.

But I don't want to remove it. I just want to make it work without having to reboot everytime I want to play.

I tried looking a little more into it. As I said, I don't really know anything about OS X drivers, but it seems weird that ioreg lists 4 wireless controller connected when nothing is plugged in.

That is exactly what I am seeing.

So, the problem is only with the wireless controller ? The wired one works ok ?

I'm using the Wired controller and it works perfectly after each sleep.

Sometimes the light flashes, and other times it doesn't turn on, but even then the controller is detected by the driver and works. :D

Yeah, that's the case for me anyway. I have an official wired pad which seems to work fine at any time (just plug it in and go if the game supports pads) but the wireless ones seem to be unable to sync after the receiver has been replugged or mac put to sleep.

I have to add that it's seems to be a bit variable for me. I plugged the receiver in this morning and tested by sleeping/waking the mac, unplugging/replugging the receiver a few times and the controller synced OK on those 3 attempts. Tried it a 4th time after a sleep and it stopped again. I've since plugged it in to a different port via a short USB extension cable and it synced 1st time and I've just unplugged/replugged to the same lead again and it's worked. No mac reboots during any of this either. Strange.

The receiver should allow up to 4 controllers to connect, so that might be why the ioreg has 4 listed. Just a guess though.

Help

Can someone please help me... I have a wired Microsoft Xbox 360 controller trying to get it to work for games on my mac. I downloaded the driver off of tattiebogle.net and I plug my controller into the USB port and the ring around the center button blinks one time and turns off. It is not recognized in the driver or anywhere that I can find. Has anyone had the same problem or any solutions out there? Greatly appreciated!

Which driver version did you use?

I never got 0.12 to work, and 0.11 works flawlessly. Even after sleeping, and waking the laptop the controller stays connected.

If you did use 0.12, check the previous page for instruction on how to remove it and then install 0.11.

I have a Mac Mini Server (mid 2011), running Snow Leopard OSX 10.6.8, 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB memory.

Brand new wired Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller- wired.

I downloaded and installed the most recent tattiebogle driver - 0.12.
I also downloaded and installed the the extra controllers file.

Seems like the same problem that very many others are having... please help.

Does anyone know anything about Metro: Last Light? It just came out on the Mac AppStore for $19.99. Before I bought it, I looked around to see if it had controller support, it does. So I load up the game, go to options, the click controls, and I can not click on controller. It's just grayed out. I've tried my PS3 and Xbox controller. Anything I find in other forums say "Just download the 360 controllers for Mac", "I just plugged in my Xbox controller and it worked", or my favorite, "Macs aren't for gaming". I can't figure anything out... Anyone else know anything? My Xbox and PS3 controller both work on Bio Shock on my Mac?
